First car I ever officially owned. First automotive love. On the paper the car was a hit. Turbo 4 cyl. motor, 5 speed close ratio box, factory recaros, staggered wheels with good ammount of lip, wide body fenders that were anything but discrete. In reality, factory motor is stupid, the car is loose as shit (good for drifting I guess), there is no feedback through steering wheel (reciculating ball steering), and parts are a nightmare to find. If I were to purchase one again, I'd throw a 4G63 in it with mighty max trans.

some pics of my car.

After watching Jackie Chan drive a Starion underwater in Cannonball Run II 20 years ago I fell in love with that car.

I recall reading something about weak head gaskets.

I just remember knowing a guy on a message board, long, long ago and he loved his, but had a laundry list of problems. Gaskets, warped parts, cracked parts, leaks, etc.

Top End Performance, which is actually local to me, has a whole list of problems that come with the car from factory. Here is a link

It's that crappy 2.6 in it. A lot of owners have swapped in the 2.2 and 2.5 engines for the Turbododges.

The DSM before the DSM. I know some people will swap in the 4g63t from the dsm's into it. I saw a guy at my local dragstrip run high 10's in his, looked bonestock from the outside.

Really good car on paper and really good looking going down the road.

Great looking car and one of the few that is actually more reliable after an engine swap.

Only one? I've spoken to more than a couple with starion horror nightmares. I agree with the rest of the thread, great looking, great on paper, swap a 4g63 or prepare to hate automobiles for a long time lol.

The 4g63 swap isn't quite as simple as it seems. The CAS for instance is right up into the firewall hardcore. Still, I want a starion mostly because I hate myself and that seems like an easy way to inflict pain on myself.

I saw one in a local Autrader with a Ford 302 swapped in and a guy on the internet was swapping in an SRT engine.

It seems almost any engine > stock 2.6.

I seriously don't care how hard it is, that stock motor makes me want to end myself. The combination of unreliable + inefficient =

Although its real easy for me to say "oh just swap the engines" when it would probably be way over my head unless I got a bunch more tools and a bunch more time lol. With your knowledge of dsms I seriously think the starquest would be perfect for you.

Someone should see if a LS1 will fit.

Putting in the engine is one thing. Then you have to worry about making a bullitproof drivetrain. Then you have to wire in the electrics for the 6 bolt. I mean, its nothing hard, but time consuming yes.

But the 4g63 has proven as capable or more capable than an LS1 and it can allow the use of a mitsu bellhousing. With an LS1 you'd need to run a GM tranny. Allthough GM poweglyde FTW. Ford 9" also FTW.

Yeah, EIP Tuning Conquest went 10.64@130 something. They still might have some stuff for the car, but highly unlikely, since most of their market at this point is Turbo VW shit. See 600whp R32
