gonna have to do a run in april as well, will be fun/interesting to get this lawn up to par in the new house. also it faces north...so my backyard will get sun baked whereas the front will at least get semi shade. it's also much larger. excited to face a new challenge - mind you the best part, no more fucking blowing seed shit from the school down the street like at the old place. i'd do all this work only to have crab grass and dandelions pop up ALL the time.

So, my fucking lawn is being taken over by crab grass (I think?) ... I'm getting fucking green strands of 'wheat'- like shit growing all over the fucking place. Give it a month, and I'l be able to do the Thanos walk thru the farm fields...

Anything from HomeDepot that could kill this shit? Weed Be Gone doesn't kill crab grass... I've also tried sitting down like a farmer and pulling them out, roots and all, but the shit keeps coming back, and likely I'm doing more harm than good as the fucking seeds likely go all over.

I've just done an overseeding and overfertilizing round ... will see how that pans out. Getting mad patches of burnt grass too

Thanks will check out seedworld as I'm looking to get some seeds too.

I have a huge maple tree in the front and my gutter runs off into the front yard too making it somewhat hard to have a decent amount of grass grow (lumpy and patchy). I was thinking of getting this to try https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/rtf-water-saver-grass-seed-2-kg-0597056p.html#srp

or this

https://www.seedworldusa.com/collections/lawn-grass-seed/products/kentucky-bluegrass-seed

I like the fact that the seedworld seeds grow to cover up patches.

Thoughts?

If anyone is looking for good seed I had great luck with these guys this year and they are local and a lot cheaper than some of the specialty seeds I used to buy before.

my lawn has been garbage this year too. bell tore up the front of it at the start of the season so the damn sod they laid down instantly turned brown, then i guess we didn't get enough rain this season so the rest of the lawn felt left out.

also didn't help that bell destroyed one of my sprinkler heads that i just got around to fixing but too late. dropped some grass seed and been watering the piss out of it, hope it comes back.

Does the Corn Gluten Meal actually work in reducing weeds? I had them bad last year and made the front lawn look like ass.

Guessing now would be a good time to start the process.

Nope, but it's better than nothing & you have to lay it heavy & slightly before the right soil temperatures if you want it to even have a chance of it working.

I'm using Tenacity this year, but if you can find Prodiamine use that.

Any sure fire way to get rid of grubs? Got raccoons and skunks digging up my front lawn. Been using GrubEx for the last couple of years and doesn't seem like it's doing anything.

with Covid 19, the lawn people won't be doing spring cleaning or fertilizing or seeding. Raked up from winter today and I still had lawn care stuff from old pad so seeded the bald spots in time for the rain tonight.

I spread fertilizer too but that may be too soon.

Yeah, GrubEx works, as with everything lawncare timing & making sure you put down the correct amount for your situation, which probably means doing a split application (2 light applications, instead of 1 heavy) When do you usually apply it?

I bought it off of Amazon last year. There were a few that were willing to ship to Canada. With such a little amount used for each application, I'll get multiple years out of one bottle.

It depends on the person. I did my lawn cleanup 3 weeks ago & have already cut my lawn twice (mainly to cleanup the debris with the suction of the mower) after multiple days raking up all the damage & debris. I have huge vole damage this year & frost heave, so I'll have to spend time fixing all of it.

Why'd you overseed so early? Soil temps are to be in the 15C range minimum for seeds to germinate. Ideally 20C. The rain's about to wash away all your seed!!!

With fertilizing so early you risk the lawn waking up too soon which isn't a problem as long as you can keep up with cutting so you don't chop off more than 1/3rd at a time.

It shouldn't be a problem though since we're all at home anyways.

Heard good things about Seed World so I might try hitting them up for Tenacity.

I usually put down the GrubEx around late april early may according to this image. But maybe should be doing it sooner since the animals seem like they're feeding.

Was hoping the rain will settle the seeds in the lawn. i seeded the bald spots with loose soil. I guess the birds can thank me for the seeds.

I've got much to learn. Hope my lawn guy will come.

Just wanted to really get as much dead leaves off my lawn so it won't be super patchy when the pros come.

Is there really anything at big box stores to help with weeds? I've got a massive infestation of dandelions, some purple shit, and some other weird looking shit. FML. I've spent probably 4 hours so far with my v-notched tool digging out dandelions by hand like a fucking Chinaman...

Got my ass bit a few times by some fucking bugs too as I'm showing asscrack

Haven't cut yet. My Mattel Barbie weedwhacker on wheels ain't going to make a dent on this lawn; Toro cordless on order.

I bought 2 bags of grass seed, but now looking at the size of my lawn and the bags, I'm so fucked. I probably need like 20 bags.

Seriously contemplating getting a gardener now for lawn maintenance and some planting. Any recommendations? I figure I'll go to hireagardener.com and they'll farm is out.

loblaws near me actually has a great selection and quality, they are opening in 2wks per an employee i spoke to there. i have already been eyeing the soil/manures/mulches they have just put out on skids when i drive by.......this is what life as become haha. the nice thing is they're open like usual so i dont have to deal with the closing/drive thru pickup bullshit of HD or crappy tire.

i've already been putting a mental checklist together of everything i need for both the lawn and to get veggies growing out back. \:\) - we've already started some small indoor items ready to transplant for around May 24 (maybe even a bit before if it warms quick). good mental relaxtion for us and keeps the kids busy/teaches them a lil something.

freaking SEEDS are all sold out there at most places like wtf mate. i have some left overs but hoping loblaws has stock when i go in 2wks.

as much as i hate loading up the car with the bags...it is fun to see it fucking slammajamma for the drive home, heh.

We've used beneficial nematodes in the past and they do a pretty good job, although it may take a while to notice the difference. We didn't use chemicals because of how much space we'd need to cover, and our kids play a lot where it would have been applied.

get a shitload of mothballs and spread them out all over lol. but be careful as indoors spaces can be a dangers with the trace amounts of insecticides inside of them that'll seep out as they break down. outside you're fine.

else, buy small samples of predator urine, not sure if it's like the actual liquid version they still sell, or like pads/product that mimics it you can spread around/plant into the ground.

I had a problem with my air conditioner being a latrine. It is located in a nice protected spot between my house and the fence.

I tried coyote urine for a while, it was like $20 for a bottle of urine crystals. In my opinion, not worth it.

I found out that it only works temporarily. After a rain storm, or a week, same old piles of raccoon/skunk shit would appear behind my air conditioner.

After being tired of picking up shit every day, I've boxed out my air conditioner with a snow fence and surrounded it with animal deterrent plastic spikes. It's been working.

Then the animal started shitting in another location which I couldn't box out with a snow fence. I laid down some of the plastic spikes and it hasn't shat there since. *fingers crossed*

If you have an animal taking a shit everyday in a specific spot, buy those plastic spikes. It's worth a try. As for your lawn being dug up, you gotta get that grubEx dry pesticide and spread it during June. It's the only way to kill the larvae. Those nematodes don't do shit.

i wouldn't mind a dog! But i'm away from my house way too long during the day at work. it wouldn't be fair for the dog.
