...So i caught it on Jan 23, 2018.
Today is Feb 14th, and i'm only 85% energy and focus. 4days ago doctor had to prescribe me antibiotics. I wasn't getting better but i wasn't getting worse.
The first 1.5 weeks i couldn't get out of bed.
This sh!t is serious. Anyone else?

Caught a cold right around Xmas time. Tried hard to fight it but was out for a week. Took the flu shot 2 weeks ago because wifes prego. I try hard to not touch my eyes or nose with my hands and wash my hands whenever I touch doors, etc.
Knock on wood. So far so good.

I got it when I was traveling for work. Was down for 2 weeks. Normally I don’t get sick. Just got my hearing back on the left side this week. Got the flu 2nd week of Jan

It's essentially mandatory for me, given the wifey needs to remain 'healthy', notwithstanding the efficacy of each year's vaccine.
Got sick twice already this season, scratchy throat again this morning

I have a good friend who is also my doctor, around Oct/Nov he usually post in our whatsapp group chat that he's got the flu shot ready for us. Usually the chat is filled with smack talk, but it goes silent after the flu shot is ready msg.
He told me that the flu shot is a crap shot. However still recommends it. f that. Here i am, sick for a month.

I got the flu shot - so far so good *knock on wood*
Wife doesn't get the flu shots (she got really sick one year getting one - says she's never doing it again) - so far so good *knock on wood again*
Kid 1 is home on her second day - fever gone away but came back; yesterday had diarrhea but she's ok today
Kid 2 is good *knock on wood* - he's probably updated on his virus patches from pre-school aka petrie dish

I'm supposed to get the flu shot but i don't. got my regular once a year sickness on xmas day, thankfully only lasted about a week. i see people with the flu and shits everyday, just keep up good hand hygiene and a good diet, deal with a flu or cold with some over the counter stuff or see a walk in doc. happens every year. isn't it kinda irresponsible of you given the line of work you're in?
not really. many health care professionals have been refusing to get it. was actually a big thing with the union. we have many infection control practices in place that we follow but at the end of the day i'm in community medicine so it's bound to spread; well, i don't spread it because if i'm sick i take droplet precautions and to prevent it too but most importantly if i'm sick, i stay the fuck home. besides, in the ER, the flu is lower on the list of communicable illness around here.
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/nat...rticle26306631/
btw i'm not one of those anti vaccine ppl, but the flu shot personally i don't see my need for one. maybe if i was older and didn't have a healthy 33 year old's immune system.

SO i ended up with a finale (the past 4 days) with a mini-cold.
I'm 30's and was quite healthy before the flu bug hit. I doubt i will get a yearly flu shot though.
I know how i caught this sh!t. I was visiting a client's office, a small operation and stuffy; as i walked in, i was like "f me sideways, i smell germs". Guys were coughing, no ventilation, i had to stay there for 2-3hours, and peace'd out quickfast. During that time i must have rubbed my eye or didn't wash my hands enough or something.
After a few days, it just hit me like a storm, i quickly showered and coudn't make it to my bed quick enough. Had shivers and then i knew, i was F'ed, just not sure how f'ed. Was leaving for Japan the next week so i took ENOUGH precautions, popping cold fx, taking cold meds that put me to sleep, went to the doctor and got anti-biotics just incase on the trip i felt like i was gonna die. Didn't end up taking it on the trip, but took it right when i got back into Toronto.

Kid 2 had a stomach bug on Sunday (no fever though) and I got hit w/ the flu on Monday - headache, chills, the works. Good thing I took neo citron night time last night and felt a lot better today.

My nurse summarized pretty well to me why you should get the flu shot.
Effectiveness does not really matter.
What matters is that you DO NOT want to get sick from the strains that the flu vaccine protects against as they are deadly.

^haha i've tried that, my wife/her fam used to take it too. does it work...eih, debatable. shit is thiiicccc though lol.
WaPo, it does work when it comes to strap throat, like when your throat is royally messed up to the point you want to die because drinking water hurts.
What you do is mix two table spoon into warm water and sip it.
That's about it.
To me it's only been a throat remedy. However, with chinese meds, it's never about the quick reaction time for cure, it's a slow recovery process vs western meds, quickfasteverything ... I usually just mix both. lol.
But for a flu, frig. I dont even know.
