So would the situation be reversed in Asian countries with an anglo name? Gwai lo, and hak gwai much? A lot of big corporations in Asia (HK for example) only have gwai lo as their regional VP. My friend who work at Manulife HK said the Regional VP is some white dude from Murica I have a client from the bank, her husband is a gwai lo and he got a job offer in HK for some German manfacturing companies as the head of HR in Hong Kong. They offered a lot more money to relocate him from Canada to HK.
why in the fuck would they have a gringo run chinky HR. finance, sure. operations, definitely. sales & marketing. maybe. HR? so much cultural bias in the practice i would think they want someone that understands the culture...

I don't even know why I am replying to this troll click bait article, but i can't fucking stand the age old argument of " if two applicants are the same, but [insert bullshit criteria] is different, who do you hire?
I've gone over hundreds of resumes in the last decade, i have NEVER in my life seen two identical candidates, ever, not even close. But if a bunch of virgin wallies from U of T and Ryerson are looking to drum up some excuses why they fucking suck at life, i suppose this isn't a bad way of doing it.
I mean let's think for a second, in 2017, in Toronto, who the fuck makes a hiring decision based on a name?

My racial stereotypes is based on my limited exposure in life in HK (perhaps Fobster can double check my assessment)
Whities (bak gwai) > Cantonese speaking chinks > Mandarin speaking chinks > brownies (ah Cha) > blacks (huk gwai)
Rationale: whites will always seem more educated, and better to handle international clients
Mandarin speaking chunks: the ones that comes down from mainland to look for work is likely uneducated (if they had money, they'd own HK Chink ass or wouldn't come down to look for work at all)
Browns: they have a better chance of picking up Cantonese better than Blacks.

Large corporations use special software to filter out candidates. I know we do. Even smaller companies can easily get a cloud based HR solution these days. I'm not surprised that "hung wai lo" gets flagged by some way too restrictive HR AI.
didn't choco posted a link a while back about people changing their names for that exact reason?
