It seems our food bills are out of control and we always food prep, I rarely buy lunches, always brown bagging it, etc.

Easily $800/month for two people \:\|

Only caveat is almost everything is organic, lots of fruits/veggies, that's still pretty high no?

Too much, and were bad for buying too much raw and letting it go bad

Where do you shop?

You can get deals on fruits and veggies from those places that have random farmers market loads and you just pay $10 for a bag of random goodies. You get a lot but each week it changes

This is our issue as well - mostly due to poor time management. We'll go grocery shopping on Saturday but sometimes we don't get a chance to cook until Wednesday or Thursday which is a little fucked. We toss a lot of food, which is quite aggravating. Debating on grabbing one of those big chest freezers to stash in the basement.

For food bills, our household of 2 are doing about $450 a month.

No frills/walmart for staple shit that's cheaper than competitors and Frescho for fruits/specialty items.

Free range chicken breasts directly from a farm supplier - cheaper than stores, I buy in bulk (70 chicken breasts last us 2 months usually).

We've done the farmers market thing, along with deliveries, etc. doesn't work for us. Cost isn't much different than the store, but it lacks variety.

450 for all of your food consumption? Coffees, take out, etc?

I don't understand how people do it.

For family of 5, we spend between 550 to 600 a month.

I spend a fair bit of time reading fliers and making a note where to buy the food from. Also we buy most of our organic goods from costco and we order our organic produce online and have it delivered every thursday for ~$80 a week.

Costco is around 200 per 2 weeks for meat and other bulk shit, plus another 200$ at no frills for other shit. Another 100 for little one for organic food

If my combined grocery and restaurant bill tops $250/month I'd be really surprised. Living alone + eats healthy + controls portions + buys deals + doesn't waste shit = cheap food budget.

FWIW: I don't buy into the whole organic craze. It's entirely unregulated and thus not worth the cost since I have no idea what I'm actually getting versus the regular stuff.

Oh fuck no... sorry, I misunderstood - that's just our grocery bill. We'll do maybe $100 on eating out and take-out, $200 on coffee, maybe another $100 or so in lunches when I forget to pack them, so ya, not far off from where your budget is.

It's all a complex matrix. Buying sales and in bulk helps a ton. Not wasting is huge too (only buy what you'll use). Portion control is obvious.

I don't buy useless snacks and junk food every week either.

lol. We buy our meat in bulk and freeze them, but it also helps the fact that we mainly buy our food on sale aka reading fliers and finding out what's on sale.

Around $200/wk in groceries. Trying to cut down hard on eating out to 1/week for family but I've bought lunch probably 3 times/ week for myself. I don't do Timmies/Starbucks, just morning coffee at home.

Gf is easily over $1000 per month for the household. We try to cook a lot home and have leftovers, etc.

We eat quite healthy.

We got to Chinese grocery markets for fruits and some veggies (not T&T).

I find they tend to have better quality exotic produce like okra, bok choy, mangoes and so on. They have much shittier apples, bananas, oranges and berries though.

$62/week including restaurants? That seems impossible unless your restaurant meals are $2 pho and whopper wednesday. Just 7 days of lunch/dinner proteins is at least $50. What is a typical days breakfast/lunch/dinner for you, i'm genuinely curious.

I think he can pull it off because portion control, he is the only that touched on that here and I know there is a HUGE discrepancy in that factor alone between many of us here. I wouldn't be surprised if I ate double what most of the people who replied eat on a regular basis.

I'm not doubting that he can do it, he has no reason to make it up but even controlling portion size it seems tough.

$250 in a 30 day month is $8.30 a day. Divide that by three meals. Heck, lets pretend he fasts and only eats lunch and dinner, that's $4.15 per meal. That's like ramen budget IMO.
The fact that it includes restaurant food makes it seem even tougher to do. Say $30/month on restaurant food, that leaves $220 for grocery food at $7.30 a day.

not all that fresh. One of the reasons for China store pricing(besides lack of frills) is because they buy old produce/near expiring stuff. It's not that great quality and if you pay attention next time you can watch the guys loading the shelf examining each piece and throwing a lot of it away(as its clearly gone bad).
Still edible until it's actually bad but I wouldn't really call it fresh.

Uhhh we spend 1k a month on food. Two people. Not counting coffee, dessert or non essential meals. This is groceries plus known days of eating out (we don't cook on weekends). Vas how are u doing 800? Surely you consume more food than I do...or not XD
