Anybody ever look into something like this? ZC you must have by now lol!
I'm not a shop and I don't need to lift a tank either. I was thinking a scissor lift as it might be more compact and less intrusive than a full blown 2 post or 4 post. Still need to be able to park two cars in the garage. If prefer it to be above ground so that I can remove and take with me if/when I move.

Thoughts?

In for answers. Was set on not getting one, but maybe with time there are better/cheaper solutions now?

I remember ZC selling a scissor lift. Now I'm interested too, wouldn't mind getting under the 911 and jerkoff to it lol.

Pretty sure it's still QuickJack, MaxJax and EZ Car Lift as the affordable and portable options.

Waiting for ZC to chime in lol.
Surely he's done this research already. I'm going to start searching.
I was thinking 6000lbs should be enough for 90% of vehicles. I have no intention to buying a truck so I think 6k lbs should suffice. There are lots of mid lifts out there but I want to be able to be fully underneath the car without having to be on my back.

Scissor lifts are great! Used one when I worked at BMW. If for some reason you're doing fuel lines, or anything that the ramp would interfere with, just use lifting pucks and position the vehicle accordingly.

In for pricing too. Are they portable enough that you could move it out onto driveway if you wanted to?

Well it's movable but it's not the easiet as they are around 2000lbs each
They come with wheels but really only work to move around a flat smooth concrete floor, any bump like going from driveway to garage is not fun.

You will also need a 20amp circuit in your garage. I specified a 120v motor so I didn't have to add a 240v circuit. It actually works fine on a regular 15amp circuit as well. I tripped the breaker once or twice when I rapidly went up and down

Based on the current exchange rate and what I paid for shipping taxes brokerage warehouse fees in Canada shipping, and the actual hoists I would guess in the $1800 Canadian range.

You would also need a couple fittings and a proper plug end that cost about $20-$30.

You may also want to extend the length of the hydraulic hose depending on where you want the control box which is around $50-$80

And you'll need a pail of fluid for about $60

Can you take a pic of it in your garage please. Also measurements of the unit, trying to see if I can fit it in my garage, if not I'm going to convince my dad that he needs it lol

that looks simple enought ZC.
Is it high enough for you to work completely under the car? Ever have issues getting into places?

I have no plans to move it unless I move from this house so I would want mine to be able to be bolted to the ground. I'd still need to be able to park my car in that space. So I assume I'd have to park on top of it at all times.
This may be an issue for me.

So it seems to me that this particular one that you quoted isn't worth imo, you might as well get the harbour freight one for $1,500. It's smaller and easier to move around. Yours looks sturdier, but in the end it's bigger/heavier so i think going smaller for a 2 car garage would make sense (thoughts?)

http://www.harborfreight.com/6000-lb-capacity-scissor-lift-91315.html

This same one from alibaba can be had for $500 usd by the looks of it, and i've seen it go on sale for $1k USD as well on HF.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/B...4838.0.0.KeWnIu

The ideal scissor lift setup is inground like this, which is what i want, but i haven't seen one like this for less than $2k:

I found this yesterday as well. Seems a little scary IMO. Also, the fact that they used the crappiest piece of crap to demonstrate its capabilities tells me they aren't very confident in their own product LMAO. But this is more my speed. A cross between this and what ZC posted is what I want. I'd prefer the lift to raise the car from the jack points rather than from the tires. Makes for a little more compactness and easier for me to park my car on top of.

This doesn't work for me at all. Sure it will make changing tires easier but I already have a 5-ton pump jack of my fathers. Something similar to this

I guess if you plan on being in your house for good then thats fine. But no way I'm cutting concrete, and re-cementing back in. This is the ideal situation but doesn't work for me either. Also, if you did sell your house, this wouldn't add any value whatsoever to the vast majority of buyers and would be an absolute shame to leave it there.

umm.....wat?

The first two quotes it's the exact same scissor lift

Also, jacking up by the tires? I have no idea what you are talking about, it uses jack points and the aerostar is really irrelevant.

Sure it's no mini with 87 octane in it, but this guy's car is still alive and well:

as far as your last comment, adding value lol

Yes, it;s heavy enough it just stays in place and you drive over it as needed. It's what i wanted because i didn't want to deal with having to move it all the time, and i didn't want to cut the concrete.

It's %100 personal preference. I didn't want to move the hoist around, and i liked the platform idea better than the harbour freight one.

The platform style like the one i got fits with plenty of space in a standard two car garage. i was actually going to keep two, have one in each stall.

I really like the in ground style the best. They are all full height, which means it lifts over 6ft in the air, and you have to either cut/dig/pour new concrete or plan the build with them in mind. i didn't want to do either so the above ground is what i chose instead.

I don't have it setup right now because i don't have the ceiling height. I have it in my detached garage, but ti;s not hooked up.
I can find some pics of it in my old house tomorrow
hmmm Maybe i should sell it?

Thats what i eventually wanted to do with my above ground one too. But eh lol

ya there is no adding value to anything here. this is really just for the lazy man haha

It was awesome even just to the raise the car up to chest height doing a cut/polish/wax, no more bending!

If say you needed to change a clutch or a gas tank. How would you do it with this lift? I'm not a giant, but I would certainly like to be able to work comfortably while underneath it.

The first link is more what I'm looking for. I'd still prefer some added safety of bolting into the ground.

There should be enough clearance in the front and back to drop a subframe or drop a tank.

I'm thinking of getting this:
http://www.quickjacklift.ca/car-lift-systems/bl-3500slx-portable-car-lift.html

I like the idea that its completely moveable. Should be good enough for my purposes and, IMO, safer than using a pump jack. Not the most ideal lift but should be good.

Not bad, let us know how it goes. I feel the price is a bit steep considering there are much better alternatives to that for the same price.

How often do you work on your car?

Like what tho? everything else I've seen has been at least 2x the price. Didn't really want to spend $3k on a lift. I honestly thought I could get a full 2-post lift for $3k but obviously I was wrong so i've abandoned that idea.
At least with this QuickJack there is space in the middle of the car to work underneath with a creaper. All other scisor lifts I've seen you really can't work underneath the car anyway. I'm still at the point of searching but seems like the QuickJack is decent. I also like how its easily moveable. Not needing it for extended periods of time, like winter, I can just pack it up and put it in loft in the garage. It seems light weight so shouldn't be too difficult.

Its hard to say how often I work on my cars. I just did brakes on both cars so that will be a while. Planning for essentially oil and tire changes for the next year or so cuz my commute to work is small. Want to do the diff/tranny fluid on the Suzuki come summer. I have some preventative maintenance planned for the Mini but that will have to wait till next summer as I start capstone in May and basically go straight till the CFE in Sept so only necessities will be done till I'm finished. This summer, not really a lot planned. Going forward there will certainly be things to do.

EDIT:
Found a couple that are too good to be true:
2-post lift!
This one supposedly lifts to 79". Its a new design LOL.

Thinking I will go the max jax route, 50/50 with my father when he settles in his new place (wherever that will be). Will just pay him a visit whenever there are clutches, gas tanks or other real work to be done. His do everything yourself spirit is not fading, and he's turning 60 soon, so it should be an easy sell.

We should have gotten one when they were 1800 USD and the dollar was at par, but hindsight is 20/20.

The main thing is I want the car to be easily lift-able for jobs that I have to work up top and below, so timing belts, clutches. Good enough to get any job done with with far less strain than doing it on the floor.

Even if I had one I don't know if I would bother with setting it up for oil changes or tire swaps to be honest. My Canadian tire plastic ramps and creeper are way faster to setup, not to mention its better having the engine tilted back for oil changes anyways......

A good jack that lifts two wheels at at time will get the job done quicker for putting on and taking off winter tires. Sometimes moving cars and positioning cars for hoist pads takes longer than just doing it where ever the car happens to be. Tire rotations are done seasonally these days, so you rarely need all four corners off the ground at the same time for tires.
