So is it pretty much set that there is no wiggle room on used cars when it comes to let's say Toyota? Almost seems it's better to buy brand new.

$25k list, sells for 25k and so on, no price drop?

They really hold their values even though they lowballed whoever traded it in for 18k or something.

update:

Bought the car last night, 2013 V6 Venza limited awd, pano roof, navi, etc. Really happy about the purchase, got exactly what I wanted (black on black - rare to find for some reason, most interiors are cream ).

Comes with extended Toyota warranty.

Some advice from this thread came in handy: smaller dealers are MUCH better based on my experience. Dealers further away from the city are more willing to deal and are more competitively priced to attract people to come to them. Being end of the month and paying cash also helped close this. \:\)

Couple of mods are inbound, front windows are getting tinted by the dealer, will also get the oem roof rack + tow hitch and remove the mudflaps in the near future. I think I can have a rear facing baby seat in there without sitting inside the glovebox/on top of the dash as well. Such mods wow.

Price was $23k before tax.

At the auction a similar speced car goes for just a hair over 20k. Don Valley North/Stouffville Toyota ask about 26ish. Came in the middle I guess, kind of at the point where I keep cars long enough that I'd rather pay a few k more and get exactly what I want than live with regret l e l

Ya I imagine for the popular models someone will come buy and pay asking. Now if you were buying a used sports car at this time of the year then I am sure they would budge some.

Well you always read on forums how people rawfish dealerships, but i guess that's mostly on brand new cars, it doesn't happen as much on used since that's where the margins are.

Was at Don Valley north Toyota, they wouldn't budge on anything. It's like an RFD'ers nightmare, yet they are the biggest Toyota dealer in the country selling 400 new /200 used cars a month. \:o

The fanboyism with Toyota products is insane, he says 4runners/FJ cruisers are the worst, absolutely not worth buying used. People buy them brand new, drive them for 4 years and trade them in for like 4-5k less than what they paid for them. JFC

I also learned 50% of used cars have been in some sort of a reported collision, their vehicle registry showed every second car with a claim.

Yep, absolutely correct. I picked up my used 4Runner (off-lease) from Toyota on Front, and they would not budge on the price whatsoever. Mind you, the price was already $5-6K below market value (considering trim model, year, and mileage).

And 4Runners/FJs are the worst. Some of the used ads I see have me scratching my head, wondering why not just to buy new.

^^ sounds about right yeah Vas. nuts.

also, you need to being an asian or indian grand father with you when it comes to negotiations, they are haggling masters (and pay in cash would help haha).

Don Valley North Toyota will NOT budge on anything. They move too much inventory. In fact pretty much all Toyota dealerships don't move much. If you're looking to buy from the dealer directly, Scarborough Toyota/Pickering Toyota would be your best bet. Whitby Toyota won't budge either.

Lulz, you can rawfish the dealer on a new car based on invoice pricing, but you don't see the backend from manufacturer to dealer, so it an illusion. e.g, I paid invoice + $700 with no admin fees, but in Canada, there is no site to show you the back end payout. In the US there, so you can rawfish even more.

That said, dealer is looking to make 3-5k per car on a used car, so if you can deal with kijiji dirt peeps, you might save a bundle. I couldn't deal with them, I traded my wife's mini and took the cash hit

Do the end of the month, end of the day thing. If you can wait until the dead of winter to pull the trigger, they will be more willing to negotiate.

When I was shopping for my used Lexus, I got it Feb 28th. Was able to get them down another $1000 on $36,500k which was already $3k lower than a lower trimmed version. I also got $3k before tax for my 2002 EP. \:D

The problem is that most used cars worth buying are the ones getting traded in at the dealer. The dealers always get the best kept/maintained vehicles in general. So you either pay a little more and get one from them, pay a little less and get a dirt peep version of the same car. Privately you can get lucky, but most owners don't want the hassle and just trade in direct, mostly scum cars end up on kijiji anyway.

sigh, such is Toronto/GTA buying power now and sales ppl in any field are having the life. pretty much all they have to say nowadays is "if you don't buy it (at this price), someone will" - homes, cars, etc.

Would a smaller town dealer give a better deal? There are 3-4 Venzas at the dealer here in the Hammer.

I bought the M3 in February. Jan-Feb is usually the slowest time for dealers and you might be able to haggle more...well that is if you can wait that long lol

Thanks to shitty new cars and the deal T&C gave me, I can sell my car with my loss only being taxes after owning for 3 years XD XD XD XD XD

I don't need the car at all to be honest, it's just one of those things once I set my mind to it I want to get it done and "check it off the list" of bullshit.

I am looking at one more today and most likely the last one for a while. A bit of a drive, but it has everything I want and they actually have it on the lot and not trying to do a bait and switch "oh we don't have THAT one, but we have THIS one" mofos.

try this...

walk around the office of dealership... find the number of sales per person list,

find the person leading, talk to him/her and then offer cash.

that person may just get a fixed amount of $ after exceeding sales target and say fuck it to their margin.

and oh, dont forget to haggle for a baby on board sign

I'm shocked that they didn't take a low ball offer if you were ready to buy for cash right then and there. you just gotta find that one salesman who's desperate for a sale perhaps.

they didn't want to move on the TSX (certified used from acura), but i got them to add stuff instead like the clear 3m bra, extra warranty and something else i can't remember. the TLX i got 5k off the bat and no charge weather tech mats.

+1 for end of the month deals. Anyone that has ever worked at a car dealer knows there is always pressure on salesman and even the dealership from headoffice to meet the targets.

I can ask my partner, he has the p85 and two model 3's on order. I don't think there is much in the way of negotiation, the price is the price.

Good score, there is TONS of room in the back for a baby Risky without the front passenger humping the glove box

FYI they sell lowering springs, and I think they look good dropped on a set of aftermarket wheels \:D
