That's usually why I do it sooner than later - why do it in the cold?

I always leave it to the last minute, usually the morning of the first snow fall and risk it to work lol

I should have done it on Friday when changing the oil but the tires are behind a bunch of junk and I was lazy. Probably next weekend.

When do we expect first snow fall?

Tire season at work has already begun. A lot of customer's came in for tire swaps yesterday.

Thx for reminder, will do it now since it shows high of 12* for the next 14 days.

I believe winters perform well when <10*... so why risk delaying it

did mine yesterday since had some free time (you must use this time wisely when you have a kid lol). plus i have yoko A048's on so removing a little earlier than usual isn't a bad thing, need to store these indoors for the winter as it is.

hankook all-weathers on now until april/may.

Had 1 set mounted/balanced/installed at LevelAuto, and my own set myself in the garage this Saturday...

No space in garage to house 3 sets, ended up having to stack em \:\|

Will have to go back and put some cardboard between each one ... Fack.

Still can't believe I used to swap them on the street, 1 by 1, with the emergency jack, and no safety shit (chalks, jackstands, etc.) ... for about 10 years.

LOL.
I already swapped mine last week. It is cold in the early mornings now so why not? That said, I picked up some new summer wheels and tires which I may swap on for laughs and see how they drive/look for a few days.

Why do you need to burn half tank? Are you storing the M for winter?
Top up the tank, add gas stabilizer, pull the battery, put the car cover on. Done?

It's always put away for winter. The fuel in the car is probably around 3 weeks old.

^You want to keep the tank full ideally. Fuel will displace moisture in the tank and reduce rusting.

What happened to the camry? That was a sweet beater.

It's good but it's an old gold Camry - good for train not good for daily driving

I say slap some winters on that tamil mobile and give no fucks who runs into you lol

But I could do that in a newer Elantra or some crap like that lol. Heated seats, Bluetooth, no embarrassment! I can always use it as a daily no fucks car too instead of a train car. Not sure. Also Camry has new all season on it. Hmm

that's a good point. a new elantra will probably cost you the same amount as just insurance on that markham wagon.

Now that I have a garage again, will need to get a new jack and stands. Anyone use Certified? Will use on car and SUV.

I don't give 2 shits what ppl think of me if I'm driving a rusted out shitbox. Seriously I don't and ultimately my old '98 civic was the best car I've ever owned.

To drive in the city to and from work? Just blends in. I'm cool with it. I also have the Lexus. Might be something else in the summer too.

I'd buy used though probably not too much with one with like 60k on it.

Drive in traffic, listen to podcasts, get good mileage and it actually makes it down my parking ramp for work - why not?

That's what the driver of the Merc SUV in ditch said!

Saw lots of those on my Quebec City Skiing trip last year.

I put winters on my AWD RDX.

Just a light dusting of snow on the car outside. But then the rain made it a bit of a sloppy mess.

Hope to get tires changed on all the cars by next week.

Prep to put the S away by this weekend.

I had traction control off exiting 401W to McCowan Road south today, dat 4 wheel drift across two lanes It wasn't intentional, just forgot that I wasn't on summers anymore . At least my hands reacted quick enough by themselves to catch the slide

The old version of the RE71R were Re71s, and they were made in 1980s for the 959.
Are you sure you had them on the s2k? XD

I actually drove in the rain this AM (it was 3 degrees). Conti DW fine here as well.

I know 2 people who had this car and both had major tranny issues of it not shifting. (one of them traded it in for a new one because of it and the new one had the same issue. lol) Just make sure the warranty is North America....

I've got to press and hold for a good 3 seconds before I can completely disable traction control. Although after that it's drifto time! lol

yeah those will prob be fine right up until very early Dec (if you want to risk it). i had the old versions of those on my s2k and sti and they we're safe enough. wouldn't want them in REAL snow though.

The old version of the RE71R were Re71s, and they were made in 1980s for the 959.
Are you sure you had them on the s2k? XD

I actually drove in the rain this AM (it was 3 degrees). Conti DW fine here as well.

you know what i mean

ie. before RE71R were RE11 then before those were RE01R

Thanks for the heads up. I had no clue and just assumed they were ok because I see a lot of older ones rolling around still and my GF has a sonata she drives a lot with no issues so far.

I put almost 50k on my 2011 and had zero issues with it. 3 of my coworkers have newer model Elantras and none of them have any probs either. My Veloster was just as solid too.

That being said, I prob wouldn't buy another. I found it kinda tight inside for my size and the torsion beam rear suspension was pretty rough.

Maybe just bad luck with my friends. I see some forums have covered it. Maybe its been fixed but still worth a bit of research.

sometimes the problem is that you only see the bad cases on the internet, and in some cases, you see the same case posted on multiple sites, and then people start thinking its an "issue".

There were a couple of FRSs in the US w/ motor issues at 30-40k miles, but after looking into it, it was the same couple cars being reported on different sites.

Unless hyundai has openly come out and said there is an issue, I'd imagine the chances are low, but of course, you only hear the vocal minority who have had issues.

I don't know man. It's like Porsche has IMS issues and they don't publically acknowledge it. Same with BMW and rod bearings.

FWIW, all Porsche did was pay out the original owners who still had the car.
There are improved IMS bearings and such which you can throw on the car. If you are really concerned, you can always factor that into cost. IIRC it's around 3k to do. That said, something like a 2nd gen Cayman doesn't have IMS, so that's a viable option if you like those. They aren't expensive.

How much did the owners get back? $100 lmfao, think that's how much it actually was in the end. So yeah how's that for owning up to it?

Class action lawsuits only favour the blood sucking lawyers.

^that's another topic entirely though. That's a flaw in how the legal system deals with this. Not anything to do with IMS.

I don't see BMW doing anything about rod bearings since the E46 days XD XD
Oh wait, was there a TSB on rod bearings for the early E46s at least?

On Saturday I did the front brakes, re-adjusted the parking brake, replaced the thermostat and pulled the climate control to replace some burnt out bulbs. Now if we can just skip right on over winter, that would be ggreeaaattttttt!!!

GNSP
http://www.blogto.com/city/2016/11/winter_weather_will_engulf_toronto_within_two_weeks/

By the middle of the month, it'll seem a lot more like winter. That shouldn't come as a surprise, of course, but given that it's 15 degrees out right now, it might be a shock to the system.

"While we expect temperatures to drop during November, there are signs that the decline will be more profound than usual for parts of the Prairies, Ontario and Quebec. During mid to late November, we expect a pattern change which will bring several rounds of below seasonal temperatures to this region," reports the Weather Network.

According to the Weather Network, temperatures will start to plunge some time between November 10 and 17.

And when it gets colder, we might be in for some snowy weather because, "When arctic air does arrive, the contrast in temperature between the lakes and the air crossing the lakes will be greater than what we typically see, and this will help to enhance the threat for substantial lake effect snow squalls in the traditional snow belt areas."

but the #1 thing the media likes to do is hype up the weather. i don't believe it, just going to stick to my weather rock.

they said it was supposed to rain yesterday and today, so i held off washing the car. could have been blinging all this time.

life in the mountains is dandy, and 5 months of skiing/snowboarding is just cherry on the cake, 4 min walks to work are stress free. put just over a whopping 17,800km on both cars in the last 18 months. with tourism booming = more $$$ in my pockets. Say hi to Michelle and the fam.

anytime... except for last week of December it's Jesus' birthday and stupid people come here. Try anytime in the new year, it's free access to all National parks for 2017.

Did mine yesterday. GF's Fiat 500 next. Winter wheels is like driving on marshmallows.....gotta remember not take corners at any speed. Arctic Generals don't seem to like hard corners much.

Swapped my sister's Honda HR-V to some old winter rubber we had lying around. kinda like the car ...

S/O running 17" steelies on fresh X-Ice3's ... brb getting hub caps.

Other than the MIL's Civic on baldish A/S's, the fleet is winterized.
