I know a lot of chinese do the "100 day" celebration.
but are we going to celebrate every single baby's birthday and the adults birthday? and just about every single event in the baby's life now? I feel like i'm paying for a baby that aint even mine.

yup this is true.....but there's only one group of kids I don't mind doing this for. For the friends now, they don't get gifts anymore. I take them out for bfast. Thats how I celebrate their bday. The kids love it too so its a win win and bfast is relatively cheap as far as meals go.

Op come from a small family ? Shit gets crazy with a big extended family.
My mom has 11 brothers and sisters.
My father has 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Most of my family is scattered around the world. I don't mind showing up for my extended family events and provide for them.
As for my friends, i love them and all, but not when there is a child's event every week. I dont have kids yet, but i feel like it's a cash grab, gift grab, attention grab etc...
It's like my child is reaching 100 days, lets invite the world. Child is reaching 200 days, lets invite the world, child is turning ONE, lets invite the world. Now multiply this with all you friends who have kids. Nevermind trying to manage my wedding invites!
on a side note: i've been paying $`150/person for weddings at banquet halls. I was speaking to a few buddies and they said that it wasn't enough???? (ANd there is no more, 'if they are close friends i will give more'. They're all close hence i'm going to the wedding)

This is a tough one, immediate family there are a bunch of nieces/nephews so those bdays we generally don't skip and bring a gift. We've skipped them for legitimate reasons, but I like attending them.
Same thing with close friends, I want to see their kids/them, so now we've tacked on a few more kids...it's almost a monthly thing to have a kid event and most close to us aren't done yet/haven't started so this will be bad over the next few years

I was at a point where there is an event once a month.
