Initial diagnosis is that I has it. Doc said there could be a small meniscus tear and I'm waiting for insurance approval for the MRI.

Has anyone dealt with this? All signs point to it eventually going away unless it's a serious case or there are some alignment issues with my patella and femur.

I'm just relieved surgery is unlikely, I was pretty worried.

To an extent, yes. Mine stemmed from an alignment issue and an ultra-stiff IT band putting strain on the kneecap.

A majority of these injuries - according to my ortho and several PT's - stem from a muscle imbalance and lack of strength conditioning. My issues were solved through a shoe lift and several months of targeted exercises (which continue to this day). GL.

ive had a small meniscus tear for the past 9 years. It bothers me after hard days on my feet (long soccer games, or extensive hiking) The next day going up and down stairs is miserable. Doctor said they wouldn't look at fixing it until it was bothering me on a daily basis. Hasn't kept me from doing anything that I have wanted *YET*. 28yo btw.

31, and I can't squat at all right now without pain. It's a very minor pain, but I still feel it daily.

Hopefully there is no tear, and I can rehab the problem away.

I hurt my knee back in 2004 when I ran into a goal post at full speed trying to catch up to a cross pass in soccer. Ever since then it hurts every single time I run. It's not enough pain to stop, but it's nagging. I ran a ton of races on it, now I pretty much decided I'm never going to run again.

I've had it.

Foam roll your IT band with a black roller 3 times a day, and keep your quads stretched. That's what solved mine.

And proper orthotics.

Foam roller is gospel.

When you use it on your IT bands, it will hurt like the end of the world at at first. Eventually, things loosen up and it won't hurt.

Stretch and roll post-run and there's a solid possibility you'll be in less pain.

I foam roll, but not as much as I should. MRI next Friday!

Where's it hurting? Inner edge, top center, low center, outer edge?

I've had outer edge knee pain that roam roller helped/fixed.

A couple months ago I developed central knee pain that took some physical therapy (simple/basic exercises) to help loosen things up: standing calf stretch, anterior step downs, ankle mobilization exercises.
Doc said it was due to tightness in my ankles/feet/toes. After a couple weeks doing the exercises the pain went away & hasn't come back.
Hopefully yours is something simple too.

I should also add (as a really marginal, not-remotely-serious "runner") that warming up is very wise. I have a 5-minute uphill walk out of my platte before I get to my 5k loop around my neighborhood. That then turns into a 5-minute cool-down walk.

Seems like a good idea to me.

I've only had one small issue with a slight calf pull. A couple of weeks rest fixed that. Achilles acted up after a 7-mile run a couple of months ago. Rest fixed that, too. This has been the longest I've ever been able to run consistently and it appears the warm-up, cool down, post-run stretching and foam roller have made that possible.
