what sucks is it seems we're heading the way of a "big american style city" vs. that of a more a "european style city" so to speak, think zurich/geneva/london/paris...well london and paris not so much anymore since they're going to shit as it is . even separating ourselves compared to even just montreal/quebec city...

looks like that's only a pipe dream now the way things are going.

Don't these spikes correlate with prison sentences ending ? Next yr they will arrest a bunch. Things will go back to normal for another 5 or so yrs...then it will happen again.

a cop buddy of mine told me that there will probably be a higher amount of gun crimes and crimes in general this year due the removal of the carding rule... he claims that prevented a lot of crime.

I don't know how much carding reduces crime. People who want to do bad violent shit will go do bad violent shit. Might help in catching them afterwards doe.

Carding is like RIDE stops, at least in theory. Supposed to be arbitrary, and maybe a slight compromise of individual rights for the greater public good. The issue is how we interpret "arbitrary". The optics of going into club district to setup RIDE is less offensive than going into high crime neighborhoods and carding black men. We all understand that driving home hammered is a choice, being born black and living in a rough neighborhood isn't.

Personally, I'd never dress like that, but it's more than likely that in some pockets, dressing like that is the only way to fit in. Dressing differently might get you jumped.

The reality is that profiling is going to happen. It's also reality that people will be offended by that profiling.

The only progress is when police interact with the general black population the same they do as with whites. If they want to concentrate on high crime areas, go ahead. But there is simply no reason for the carding that they do at the rate that they do, in all areas.

@porscheter, You can dress however you want, you will still be harrased by the police. I've been in a suit in my X5 coming home from work and still be stopped for no reason.
