3.3 miles today in 39:24. I dont know if it was because I didn't eat too much today (chicken stir fry, banana, CLIF bar, coffee) but I just had next to no energy during my run. \:\( About 1/3 way through my run my shins started to hurt but not nearly as badly as they used to when I first started running. I took a hot shower and then turned it on 100% cold and let them soak with that for a long while and took some ibuprofen. The pain is on my left leg about 3" up from my inside "ankle bump". It doesnt much hurt now, but a lot with pressure. Hopefully it's a one time thing and nothing bad at all. \:\)

Here is my chart which I've logged every single run on since I began. The 0 mile week was when I injured my hamstring (again) and rested. Anyone else keep track through a log system? I really enjoy the runnersworld.com one and would recommend it to anyone interested. It helps keep me a bit accountable (as do all you guys!) for running and eating right as well. \:\)

Ran my half marathon Saturday. I was hoping for less than 1h 49m but ended up at 1h 53m, the last three miles were uphill. Ouch.

Dude trying to pass me by the camera, no way sucka!

After the race we hung out for awhile, it was sponsored by a winery so we got free wine. Yum! I'm on the left, the girl beside is a girl from work I actually used to date about 7 years ago (nicest girl I've ever dated!), guy in the middle is a work buddy (1h 48m) and my brother (1h 55m) on the far right (he's a ham). Good times.

That is a great time. I ran my first Half Marathon in Miami in 2:12. I am running the NYC Marathon (for Tourette Syn.) on Nov. 2 I am hoping to finish at approx. 4:00.

Thanks man, I really wanted 1h 45m and had gone several 1h 49m times, but even that was on flat land. I guess I can't expect to run faster than I train like some people do.

You are capable man. You should see me I am a stick and look like I can break records...look at my time. I was playing it safe but I don't think I could have broken the 2:00 mark. Training for these upcoming 26.2 miles make the half marathon training look super easy. I can't wait to see my time for the 2009 Half Marathon.

I'm definitely considering it. 7 miles felt pretty comfortable this morning. I may just have to step up my game \:\)

And its flat, if not downhill(if its the same course along LV BLVD).

This is it : http://www.lvmarathon.com/

I am debating if to go to Vegas early Dec. or celebrate the 31st there (that would mean no race for me but maybe more fun).

I think you can run 10 miles comfortable (but slower) pace. If you can reach 10 miles at a decent pace you can do the 13.1 miles of the race. Race day is night and day when i comes to focus and inspiration. I feel full of energy when I race because of the vibe of the people.

Finally got back into the groove the past 2 days. 6.5 yesterday with a 7:50 pace and today 4.55 in a 7:28 pace. I'm going to have to bust my ass for the next 2 weeks to get into decent shape for this 1/2 marathon. The only goal I have is to go below 1:50

Any tips from the people that have ran a half marathon before? What about clothing? It will be pretty cold since it starts at 7:30am, but I'm sure I will start getting hot.

Id go with layer so you can strip off if necessary. Something like shorts for bottoms, sleeveless T, long sleeve T, jacket if necessary. Try to keep it to two layers if you can so removing will be easier since you can just tie one around your waist.

That's all ya need right thur!

I need to get out and run, I haven't since Friday. *runs and hides* My big thing is that all of my friends (that are interested in running/cardio) are all above me in their fitness. My roommate could run a 5k in ~24 minutes whereas Im right at 32, and it's hard to train with people like that IMO.

Matt,
those people are great to train with. He might be a little out of your league, but it will push you. If you can, find someone that is 3-4 minutes faster than you...

Well, it wasn't a one time thing at all. Now I have the same pain in my right leg as well. These are not shin splints as they don't feel like it's the shin that hurts. It feels as if pressure needs to be relieved or something of the sort. It slowed me down terribly today as I did 2.3 miles in 31:24. \:\( This absolutely sucks and I hate it! Silock- what is that compartment syndrome feel like that you have? If Im able to run through this (maybe it's a second onset of (more) severe shin splints), then I will; however, I don't want to further injure myself either. This is coming after 4 days of solid rest and the only thing I can attribute it to is playing ultimate frisbee and wearing my soccer cleats which arent nearly as comfortable as my running shoes and running on ROCK HARD packed dirt. Any suggestions? I can't do anything without getting hurt it seems. \:\( How was y'alls day?

Yeah, that's what it feels like. Like you just want to cut your leg open and let it drain. And it fucking KILLS. Way worse than shin splints. Mine is on the inside of my shinbone, right under the bone.

You can exercising the anterior tibialis and see if that helps. It helped me a bit, but the real problem I have with them is the constant pounding of running. It doesn't hurt while running on grass on the soccer field, but running on a treadmill or pavement just kills.
