that time again, looking to upgrade.

Currently have a wrx that I'm looking to trade in towards a Toyota/honda pickup or equivalent compact suv with at least a v6. Not looking for heavy duty towing but be able to pull a normal 4x8 trailer with ease.

I was looking at Honda Pilot, ridge line, Toyota Highlander, Tacoma pickup Nissan Pathfinder and out of domestic I was looking at the jeep gc with the diesel.

What advice can you guys give?

For your commute length ans style diesel isn't the best option.

I like the Venza a lot, makes a good looking/comfortable daily and can tow whatever you need, decent room inside as well.

Or a ridgeline, more car/van like driving (comfortable) than a truck. Not that good on gas though, they average similar to what the F150 does (based on reality).

i will admit toyota has some pretty sweet options (don't get venza ugh lol).

honda - the new '16 Pilot is just coming out and it's all new...you get a lot of bang for your buck with it, go test drive one and see (depending on trim level). i hear you don't need to even consider an MDX if you get top of the line lol. i'm gonna drive the 16 soon, check it out. 4wd or 2wd lower trim.

ridge is sweet but not a 'true truck' (it is 4wd at least) but it may fit your needs in that case. granted i think a pilot would be better for you. i'm sure you can find a deal on clearance of 14-15 pilot's since the '16 just came out.

a new ridgeline is coming 2017 which is supposed to be a very nice step up in the market.

otherwise it's mdx/rdx if you wanna go a bit higher end. i'd suggest checking out a new RDX, drives nice.

too bad crv has no v6 or diesel option here \:\(

FWD trucks, ugh no thanks.

Out of your list the Tacoma, but be prepared for the shit fuel mileage, lol.

Why not a half tonne? F150, Sierra, etc? I think you get more bang for your buck with a bigger truck. Combine that with a crewcab and you can fit the whole family.

Or you go small SUV, Terrain, Escape? Lots of options in that category as well.

I've looked at domestic trucks but always hear issues with reliability and even if it's just small parts that need to be replaced often but still add up. My dad has a 12 Durango and the power steering hose broke $500 later. Buddy has a GMC Sierra and is on top of maintenance but still complains about having to replace things that shouldn't need to be done with his mileage so i get conflicting reports

well dodge ram would be the one you want (even they have issues), but a '12 durango lol you're just asking for it.

gmc go silverado or nothing. sierra's have been around awhile and i'm sure have their hiccups (thought they decent?), but i don't know enough about them to comment.

see what ford offers in smaller F150 or maybe nice Escape? otherwise stick to your original honda/toyoter plan.

or do the choco canuck X5 towing special

I don't get the venza hate.

OP doesn't need a truck, he said he needs to be able to tow a utility trailer, that's it. Why over buy on a vehicle and slug around in some huge monster that you will ever hardly use. I prefer comfort/reliability/some sport over a half ton.

The venza V6 is rated to tow 3500 lbs, it's nice inside, quick, great utlity, great family hauler, practical, etc. Not sure what's not to like, it's a legit choice, but I am aware most people don't like them which is ok.

For me it's the dorky looks. Big wheels for no reason and the proportions are all over the place. Just plain fugly. But I'm super biased since I really dislike 99% of what Toyota makes, except for some of the current trucks coming out are looking nice like the highlander.

You're thinking Colorado/Canyon (which is the small truck) vs the Silverado/Sierra.

it's funny how a lot of people were calling the ridgeline a fail of a truck when they first came out, now everyone wants them. my brother's is great unless your really needing a truck for everyday life. he manages a small landscaping company with that thing, kid hauler, great all around truck.

Almost bought my wife the Venza but I did some reading and they have issues.

The outback is a good compromise. Get the 3.6r if you get an automatic. My wife's 4cyl manual is really nice to drive but slowish. It does tow a 4x8 trailer just fine though

I would still stick to the jeep, I already sent you long PMs lol. You should have bought the one for 14.5 I sent ya \:D

this. exactly lol. from the few i've driven i really like them, handles great for a larger vehicle (ody platform underneath) and does everything you need it too with half-decent mileage. interior works well for everyday and you have an ok bed with the hidden storage (lockable) underneath. very low warranty from what i've seen over the years too. some issues here and there but pretty solid for the most part. can't wait to see what they bring out for 2017, supposedly pretty bold step.

I am sorry to say but the Ridgeline is a total fail for what it is, dollar wise it costs the same to purchase/operate as a F150 but it does everything way worse, towing, off road, you name it. I still respect it because it's a honda and I am a fanboy to this day, Honda fit and finish is better than toyota/ford/whatever turd you want to compare to. But even that wears thin on me, the ridgeline is nothing special, i only like it because it's a honda product. Would I ever buy one? Fuck no, but it's a good compromise for many people who need a van, but don't want to be seen in one and live one lie per day type of life.
