Retail is getting tough out there man. Does make sense though - didn't make sense to operate under two banners.
Also electronics in Canada (stores) aren't as popular as they once were now with the internet.
Pretty big news though and very sudden.

Future Shop originated in BC in the early 80's and was bought by Best Buy. Currently the Future Shops are closed but some will re-open under Best Buy. For example Heartland (at 401 and Mississauga Road) Future Shop is closed but the Best Buy in the same parking lot will remain open.
We had a meeting this morning at 7am and we were all given our packages. The store managers and assistant managers were told this morning at 6am.
Any customer with web orders will have them fulfilled through Best Buy.

I'm surprised they ran those stores together after the merge to be honest. I always thought that was weird.

Inregards to shifting over to Best Buy, it depends on your role in Future Shop. The top Future Shop sales people were transferred over. My role was Merchandiser /Shipper & receiver and those of us doing that role were let go.
The stores were run together after the merger. Our pay stubs showed Best Buy Canada not Future Shop.
All employees nation wide had staff meetings this morning. It was well coordinated.
It took about 2 years or so (those living in Barrie would know as one of the 2 stores there closed) was the beginning. Then they (head office) decided the newer stores not making profit, and then this morning.

Sorry to hear about the job loss.
Next up is Sears. Surprised they stuck around so long. Rona is strong in Quebec (actualy Quebec is a very unique and picky market). Rona may shut down outside of there but no idea.
I'm actually sitting in a shop waiting for an alignment and 2 girls are sitting here from best buy (one is even wearing the blue shirt) talking about their stores and what they think is going to happen etc. I'm just sitting here listening like ....go on tell me more about your stores challenges and profitability....

That was the main problem on the sales floor. They acted like the customer was last they had to finish their personal convos on their phones first and didn't care when the customer walked.

robbbby: in hindsight I suppose I knew it was coming. Like you said when it was dead, man it was really dead at my location Dixie Dundas. But when you're working your ass off you put it out mind and hope for the best.
If there was one indicator that didn't set off any flags but should have was when the VP of MArketing/Merchandising came in this past September and had us merchandiser re-arrange the layout in some departments and she never left until end of October. So, lesson learned. Now I know for future.

I hated going to Best Buy. At least the incentive was there for FS salespeople to be courteous and helpful. I found BB sales people to be indifferent, and I didn't like the store layout at all.
I guess I will just do my shopping online from now.
Yeah and at FS they were willing to help you out on the price just to make the sale. Sucks that this is happening.
