Anyone else looking at these?

http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canon-powershot-g7-x
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-lx100

I like the Canon specs / build quality and it's completely pocketable like the S90-S120... The LX100 might be worth the bigger body for the sensor, raw conversion, timed exposure, 4K video and capture, NFC, viewfinder, etc.

And then there's the optical performance alone:

http://www.dpreview.com/previews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-lx100/images/Equiv_Ap.png

90% of my shots will probably be at 24mm regardless of which one. $900 is approaching a good mirrorless ILC... Gotta admit the LX100 has just about everything I've been hoping for in a compact for years.

Maybe pick up a Canon S110/120 for shits and giggles either way when they go on sale in ~2 months?

Tough call.

I was kicking myself for picking up my S120 when I saw those yesterday, then I saw the price.

The S120 was already expensive for what it is, no goddamn way am I spending $900 for my night-out-with-friends camera. My wife has already dropped the S120, I'd have had to beat her if it was one of these.

Yeah, that was my first thought on the price as well. I want to say my S95 was $200 on a holiday sale in 2011. The S120 will probably drop to $250 this fall. The S110 is there now before Black Friday discounts.

Although... I use the S95 pretty much every day and more than all of my other cameras put together (but that may be due to the disposable factor). How it has survived 3 years in my pocket is a mystery. Retractable lenses on Canons - I have had terrible luck with them historically.

There's a 60D / T2i / XS and 17-55mm EF-S lens that haven't seen action in forever and would produce the same image quality (except for only being ~28mm 35mm EQ at the wide end). I am just really tired of hauling a DSLR around. Mirrorless ILC isn't much better in the portability dept with a decent lens at this point in time.

I guess I should pass it on to someone else on the site. lol The 17-55 wears the XS... and the T2i... and the 60D.

The new pancake 24mm EF-S would be awesome on any of them but EF-S lenses make me sad in the pants. And the new compacts just look like cool toys I'd actually use.

A Fuji X100S would be awesome too as the price drops and it's the same camera as the new X100T. Just wish the 23mm lens was actually 23mm in practice. It can't be that hard to wire together an APS-C sensor with a fixed lens and run Android or some shit. No AF. No mechanical shutter. Something I could take a decent landscape shot with and process the RAW with VSCO-like app / upload to teh cloud. C'mon modularity!

If the 24 STM is anything like the 40 STM, I may pick it up and sell the 24 IS. That 40 is a proper fucking optic and the size/weight is just gravy.

Different systems and all, but I love the 40mm pancake (DA 40mm f2.8 Limited) I just got for my Pentax K-30. At only 91g it makes carrying a DSLR a lot nicer compared to the heavier zooms I have. Hell I thought the box was empty when it showed up. I'm pretty set on adding the 15mm and either the 70mm or the 77mm limited pancake primes in the nearish future because the weight/IQ is so much nicer.

I got the 40mm STM after TD mentioned something about it in Out There and I saw the archive thread on POTN. It's freaking awesome on a FF body for general use. For $150 the 24mm EF-S will be hard to pass up. It will give the same field of view (38.4mm 35mm EQ) come to think of it. That might be the way to go.

Sounds like a pretty good 'in the boat/on the river' lens.

Aw piss, I just saw it was an EF-S lens. I was really hoping it'd cover FF, not sure why I thought they could make such a small 24 given I have their other new 24 and it's three times longer.

I've had the LX100 for a few days and am really impressed. Image quality is on par with an aps-c dslr with a fast zoom. The freaking menus never end.

The S110 is on sale for another day or two for $179. Couldn't pass it up.

My LX100 has been getting repaired at Panasonic for a month. Huge dust spot or debris between the sensor and rear element. Otherwise nice camera but I would wait until the mk2 version or just get the Sony like most normal people.
