I explained that math to her recently. She wasn't impressed.
One of my old skate buddies (who was also a cyclist) once told me to explain to her that as men we NEED these toys in our lives. Solid theory, IMHO.

LOL--the latest update to mapmyride is pretty wonky in terms of logging workouts. Thus the globe view.
As for tires, I run the same pressures in both sizes: 105r/100f because pinchflats. (I'm down to 180, but I'll pinchflat anything) The 25s are still super cushy at that pressure.

Yeah, I simply can't do that. Fuckin' awesome century, tho. God damn.
Today, I skipped they bike and went to a steak fry instead (legs are way overtrained right now, so I honestly needed the break).
Will ride tomorrow and TT on Tuesday.

Decent TT tonight. Somewhere in the 36 minute range (we'll see the official results later in the week) and averaged 19.4mph for the 12.1 miles. I climbed the strongest to date, so that's cool. Descending was so-so, but it was pretty damn windy tonight (tropical storm heading this way)
That said, got chicked pretty hard. Both were tri-chicks, one was sponsored by the Colavita Fine Foods women's cycling team. There were a couple of brutally fast dudes, too--one set a new PR for the course in the 27 minute mark, which is insane. Usually, FTD is in the 30 flat range.

My quads were pretty vascular right after the finish, so I was stoked with that (out of vanity).

Here are my splits (couldn't fit them in one shot):

Mapmyride isn't all that good with elevation. It's near a reservoir, so what goes up, comes down. Looks a net elevation gain of 300 feet. The biggest climb is a 3-tiered bitch of a climb that takes about 10 minutes total to tackle. The last kicker is murder. After being completely wrung out, there's a short, slight recovery climb and then a bunch of descents. Odd course for a TT, but it does the trick.

That makes ultra marathons look low impact. Insane.

TDF has what? 3x as much elevation? Aka around 65k feet, 500 fewer miles over 5 more days. Sounds like TDF is harder but what do I know

I get that, also I think its a lot easier to do a pure zone 1 low effort all day long than the sprints/climbs and fights to stay in the pack in the TDF while competing with the fastest people in the world over a similar distance and much harder climbs. I think these 'ultra' people are a crazy bunch but they bend themselves backwards to compete in alternate forms of extreme suffering.

I think it's considerably easier to ride for 20 hours/day at 8.5 mph than 5 hours @25 mph [w/3x vert]
but we can agree to disagree

I'll definitely agree to disagree with that one. 20 hours of anything will shut down most people.

...and those TdF bikes are 15 lbs, BTW.
