Still snowing, close to 10cms so far. I'm guessing we'll get about 15cms before it's all said and done..
Should I be 'that' guy and use my snowblower today?

Car is a tank in the snow, if you ever need me to pull you out, just let me know

Dropped to fucking 16C last night in the house... Fucking brrrr... Nest took over at that point and kicked it back up to 17C, which was still fucking cold, so I kicked it up to 18C...

We have that in Woodstock today too.. I've gotta drive to it in about an hour.
Furball has a $250 thermostat and keeps his house at igloo temperatures to save money. Like owning a BMW M3 and driving a matrix because insurance is too much!!

Buys nest for HVAC automation, continues to "kick it up" manually multiple times a day.
automation achieved.

Ignorant people are ignorant.
It's the 'beginning' of the cold season... well, to the point that it's getting to be below 0C on average at night. As such, we're beginning to tweak what 'feels right', and what doesn't.
I don't go full automation using Nest. I use it as an overly-expensive scheduled thermostat with wifi connectivity.
So, I thought I could handle 17C at night. Nope. Fuck that. So I'm setting the minimum to be 18C from now on. If not, I'll try 19C... Move on people.
And FWIW, I got a $300CAD rebate from Nest for the thermostat

My basement feels fucking warmer than the main floor (It's got carpet down there though... hardwood on all other floors)
I've already covered up all basement heat registers with some stolen magnets y0... and I've metal-taped up all the duct joints I could find...
I also have some 'heat register deflector' thingies in some strategic places, but they ain't doing much...
Gonna see how well I fare with 18C as the 'base' temp...

like i said before, nest is just a fancy doohickey...for what MOST peoples needs are, you can do mostly the same things with a basic programmable thermostat. a fancier prog-stat will do pretty much the same thing as a nest if you like, just have to play with the settings. of course it won't have as much 'sensing' abilities as a nest though.
my house is 22.5 with a new high-eff. furnace (variable motor) and decent prog-stat, thing purs and just puts out only enough to keep the house a perfect/steady 22.5-23c (everyone's home is different for ideal temp doe). may consider a nest in future/bigger home.
it's funny folks will go spend $$$ on a nest stat yet their furnace is a huge, old, inefficient turd.

Next year I also plan on installing some 'flaps' around the garage door to totally close out all gaps around the door panels...
will make a great addition to the bars on the car windows.

We are getting pounded right now. Zero vis we've got probably 4 inches in the past hour and no signs of it letting up anytime soon.

why can't we get that you want 100 cm of snow? Are you retarded? Yup. If we have to put up with this BS cold it may as well snow, and snow hard. As long as I'm not stuck on a closed highway somewhere I'm good with multiple snow days at home spent shoveling the white goodness

So the question is should I bother going to Niagara Falls, Buffalo this weekend? I was planning to pickup my Amazon orders and do some shopping there. the snow caught me out of nowhere seriously? You have AWD + Turbo + Winter Tires. DO IT!

It shouldn't... As long as you drained the gas and ran it dry before storing it. That's all I do with mine. Fill up with fresh gas the next season and that's about it.

Either I'm not used to winter yet, or the brand new Michelin Xi3's aren't that awesome.
I had more traction than most dudes out there, but from a start, I was spinning a bit. Once going, straight line was rocking it baby...
Fucking weather was terrible, day was worse... Attended a close uncle's funeral ... My aunt... She was calling out his name... and holding his hand in the casket
Another uncle had to be rushed to the ER during the sermon

Sorry to hear dude.
Re. your tires, like any tires, winter tires should be 'broken in' before you use them in full snowy road conditions. they still have that lubricant compound on the outer skin that you should drive on paved roads for awhile to get it sorted, you prob just didn't have enough time/mileage on them before this snow hit. they'll improve as you get a bit more mileage on them.
http://www.tirerack.com/winter/tech/tech...99-06642aa57e8d
http://tires.canadiantire.ca/en/info-centre/breakingInTires/
we have mostly michelin winters on our work cars (i'm using 1 season old ones on this 15 accord) and they're very good. i still prefer the blizzaks though...most of our new winters will be blizzak WS80's. i'd still love to try hakka's or gislaveds though.
gonna take the R out for shits n giggles to test out the 'all weathers' hankooks in the snow too.

Add some Seafoam to the gas and give it a run through, you might have some dirty jets in the carb.
