sick, sick car

arguably better balanced than the s4, not as much power "on paper", but a few hundred pounds lighter too.

best part is the progressive steering setup. steering ratio gets quicker as you dial in more lock. result is quicker turn in with less steering movement, while at the same time keeping the car stable and not darty on high speed straights

this one had the 19s and magnetic ride adjustable damping

if i could afford it i'd buy one in a heartbeat

Has quick turn in ...but stable at high speed cause of the slower ratio off center...does not compute ;\)

E36 m has progressive rack .. giant ball of suck.

Though that's probably electric so they probably came up with some tuning wizardry?

yea electric and the motor is calibrated for the rack spacing

maybe that's the wrong description, but basically you get a lot more angle at the wheels without having to feed the hell out of the steering wheel

which means if you give it even just 40 degrees of lock, you are already turning a lot more sharply than you would with a standard rack

to me the net result feels like a quicker turn-in.. maybe the "progression" is a lot more aggressive on this version? dunno.

i dunno how quick those E36s were set up but this car is 2 turns lock-to-lock

The tuning must be different for when its going straight(and at somewhat constant speed).

e36 was like driving a bus...not e30 bad..but so bad that most people change their racks out for quicker steering. I did.

I suspect that car has a quick rack ..but they dial out input at cruise cause electric. /assumptions

The whole rack thing can cause more understeer at the limit depending on the situation. If as a driver, you are accustomed to dealing with a rack that is linear and move the wheel at a set speed, then you are possibly exceeding the limits of adhesion on the front tires with a quick variable rack--because now your entry speed no longer is suited to the speed at which the front wheels are changing direction (read: steering).

Sorta like...you know how noobs dial in lots of steering angle as soon as the car starts to push? Now it's the car doing that for you with these new fangled wismo racks. I'd personally prefer a standard rack, though I don't deny that this variable stuff is more fun on the street (because you wont ever see the limit).

I like the S3 too, but err WHY AUTO ONLY, AUDI? WTF?!?!?!
How is the car mid corner on power compared to something with the sport diff? I suspect it handles like the TT always did in those situations...

Call me crazy, but I'd pick a golf R over the S3. Hatch > Sedan. Manual > auto. Arguably better resale on the R. Nice car doe. Really nice to see more options in that segment. It's been dead for a while!

I hope for your sake that it's not as numb or as shitty braked as the 235 XD XD XD

Go drive one. Have your mind blown at what happened to "BMW steering" and also at the long ass pedal travel w/ soft pedal and brakes (probably pads) that don't bite.

After 88km (strava verified) of high intensity cycling that he did over the summer it shouldn't be an issue.

It has now been like, 3 days since Choco responded to this thread and said he is considering buying an M2. Still trying to understand the co-relation between his comment and this thread. I do not see it ._.

spd-dmn creates thread talking enthusiastically about the S3 he just tried.
choco plainly says he might buy m2.

WTF?! JUST LIKE THE WAKEBOARD THREAD! XD

Is it?
IMO M2 = RS3
235 = S3. Look at the power output and cost alone.

M2 is like $20k premium over an S3 bra.

Come on, S4 is faster than 2007 RS4 on a track, so I'm comparing the S3 to the still unknown M2

Still doesn't make sense.
In the statement above, you are comparing a new platform to an old one. In general, the new one will outperform the old.

But in your M2 comparison, you are comparing a new car to a yet even newer one! If you are suggesting that the S3 might perform to M2 levels, and that despite that you are still happy to pay the $20k premium, then ok, I guess I understand your underhanded brag post. You still cray doe :p

Brag post for vapour ware? Nah, not at all. I am in the process of doing some career changes that will allow me to get back into a toy, and I just thought the M2 was comparable and I may get one. Thanks for the edumacation on how they stack up.

/too poor to afford an M4.
