A few months ago, the company I work for announced that we would be getting an annual Technology Allowance of $250. Do any of you guys get something similar?
The initiative is to "To improve the employee experience and to support employees in their efforts to accomplish exceptional work." which is a little bogus but hey I'm not complaining.
The allowance is applicable to items like:
- Smart phones
- Wearables (smart watch, Google Glass)
- Tablets
- A/V encoders
- Software and hardware for your work or personal computer/laptop that are not part of our standard install
- Headphones
but exclude:
- Streaming services
- Subscriptions
- Wireless or internet plans
- Apps
- Televisions
- Game Consoles
Any suggestions? I was considering an iPad Mini or perhaps two Android 7" tablets (Samsung, Acer).

Interesting - we don't have anything like that but are provided laptops and smartphones (apple 5c is the phone of choice right now)
If we need software or anything we just ask for it.
I'd choose an iPad mini most likely

It's an annual allowance, you can get a new ipad air every year provided you keep buying one. That's how allowances are anyway.

That's probably company dependent, I am assuming it's a use it or lose it policy. Unused allowance doesn't carry forward.

Better than not getting anything other than a citrix token.
I don't mind working from home (I actually prefer it esp. on shitty weather days) -- I b-slap our service provider and other teams on communicator; but at least WFH allows me to do that while I'm watching the price is right during the day.

Ya you're supposed to use it for work but it is yours to keep.
We get the latest and greatest smartphones and laptops provided to us already, so I don't have to use it on that.
