Learn me on flexible dieting aka IIFYM! BB.com forums a good resource? Shall I googlize it?

Background: Crossfit for 1.5 years + Paleo / crossfit football dieting / bulking. Moving to a bodybuilding routine out of sheer boredom and interest in actually building my physique up. I have questions and need help.

Art, was it too much of "no gym for home"? Would you like me to clarify some more?

What's your physique like now? What are your lifting numbers, what supplements are you taking? What are your goals?

A lot of the stuff you said, or wayne says, or diesel says, etc, I have no clue what you guys are talking about. I don't get down with all these random diet/exercise programs that exists. I mean, I'm aware of them but, in general, I have no clue. I do know how to be jacked though and clang plates.

My basic lifts are: 215 bench, 325 back squat, 375 deadliest (out of proportion, i know.) I'm currently sitting at 170 lbs (@ 5'9) and probably 16-18% BF. If someone can tell me how to use Naplam's server, I load up a mirror selfie. I'm looking to hit 185 lbs and 10% BF within 12 months. I was hitting about 3200 calories per day, but I feel like that's way over where I should be. I'm currently taking whey protein 2x per day, creatine mono and bcaas.

I wouldn't mind keeping my strength, but honestly I don't really care. I'm more about the aesthetics at this point in my lifting progression.

You need more strength, much more. You're doing good but, you need to be stronger.

What is your program like right now?

I was doing http://theoutlawway.com/category/blog/ for about 6 months and saw some great strength gains. However, the quick progression / bad form / whatever was causing starting to give me recurring pain in my elbows, knees and lower back. Which is a big reason I wanted to shift to something that was going to give me muscle fatigue instead.

For a body building style, I like CT Fletchers style of working out. It works for me, I mean, I don't follow him but my personal style is the same way. You should still be progressing set to set, every set counts for something, reps aren't just for the sake of reps. You gotta get your swoll on dog.

I may or may not let a "I command my muscles to grow" fly at the gym this morning. So what is your recommendation on nutrition information? The bb.com forums legit? I'm trying to come up with my macro needs and caloric intake demands so I can do this thing right.

forums suck, seriously wait for Cory to get back from the fucking woods, godamn white people and their love for nature and shit.

you want a myfitnesspal.com account or whatever your preferences there, once macro's are determined (fats/protein/carbs) you want to track this stuff and basically try to hit whatever your baseline is, and then adjust those numbers based off of like a 3-6week weigh in average. whats the trend are you slowly going up, down, maintaining.

what cardio is being done, that also needs to slowly introduced rather than just jumping into it because if you need to add more you don't want to be doing 5 cardio sessions for an hour a week already.

On a cut the best kind of lifting is like Art said, volume and intensity rather than trying to make pr's you really just want to maintain anythign you've built.

No point losing 10-15lbs if you're going to lose 6lbs of muscle.

0 cardio, with the exception of the horizontal kind. I'm not trying to cut anything, I'm trying to put on about 15 lbs of muscle with as little additional body fat as possible. I guess I'll wait for Corey aka Diesel aka Bro lifting God to return from his spirit walk.

Eat protein. 1.5-2g per lbs of lbm. Lift hard. If you start putting on fat, cut back the cals a bit. Everyone is different, and it may take some experimenting to figure it all out.

I just did a chest workout, pyramid form to exhaustion and actually hit a personal best of flat bench without a spot of 335. I even pretty much pause repped that shit x1.

I usually wouldn't attempt that without a spot but, I felt like unstoppable today.

The pyramid went like this

135x30

185x20

225x12

275x5

315x2

335x1

and then back down, when I got back to 225 I just did x10 sets with that in conjunction with pushups to failure. 3 mins between sets. Done.

No algebra or magic formula involved, that's how I felt today and it was good.

I'm with Art. I mess around with tempo, rep ranges, drop sets super sets and I seem to put on a fair bit of muscle and get stronger.

I don't "nerd out"... my shit is basic, and it gets results...

takes a bit of work on the client's part, so if you're lazy and can't track what you eat, or simply don't want to, i can't help you...

I'm not a fan of IIFYM because it's not as efficient as eating healthy food.
I think this dude explains it well.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5LjCw6LRec

Just took a nutrition class at school and the professor who is a nutritionist basically said the same thing as dude in the video.

That video is bullshit. He starts out by saying "imagine these two things have the same macronutrient content," then goes on to talk about added fats in the burger and artificial flavoring and preservatives in the pop tart. Artificial flavoring has no impact on fat loss or gain, aside from its calorie content. He tells you what he basing his reasoning on, and none of it is scientific evidence.

What he's really arguing is that it's hard to eat "dirty" foods because people aren't paying close enough attention to the content of their food. Which is true, but doesn't undermine the concept of IIFYM.

That's what I got from it. It's easier to eat "clean" rather than trying to figure out how to shoehorn a bunch of Western Bacon Double Cheeseburgers into your diet.

That's fine. I think IFYM works way better when used sparingly.
