This has been a DIY mission for a while, but we've reached the point of diminishing returns (actually we reached that before I even started this DIY).

The good thing is I found where the leak is, after pressurizing the system to 150 psi the coil is where the leak is at. Going to pay to have someone come in replace it, even though it's tempting to do myself now that it's cooling down.

I feel guilty with the thermostat at 23.5C ... Anything higher, and the 2nd floor is too warm.

26C I'm dying. 29C is Risky cray.

FWIW, I had to replace my 2nd gen Nest with a new one (under warranty) ... the internals were warming the sensor so much that it reported temps 2-3C higher than it really was. (I had to buy an old-school mercury thermometer to confirm.)

yeah pretty fair that you get to work in an AC office environment during the day and your wife is stuck at home w/ a cranky hot baby.

I'll be sure to nominate you for the Dad / Husband of the Year.

i caved and turned it on last night. only because it was 28* upstairs and kid was sweating when sleeping lol.

i can't justify cooling down the entire house, i even contemplated a DIY AC box, i have everything sitting around for it and it makes more sense to just cool my room.

I recommend just paying somebody, it is definitely not DIY. You need to braze the hi/lo pressure lines to the new coil, you need a vacuum pump to pump the lines down and then obviously a set of gauges to check the lines once it has been refilled with refrigerant. If however you do try and DIY this, please keep us updated with pics!

blah blah blah lol

all this talking about the baby and NO AC. What about countries who don't have AC....it's a NA thing...luxury...baby will be fine.

Now...is it a nice move since wifey is probably pissed off and looking after the baby the majority of the time...I'd say no but then again I don't have to live under the same roof so that's risky's move \:\)

As a kid, temperature changes didn't bug me one bit. Played in all sorts of extreme weather.

The issue I see with it, is it worth the discomfort to save $50 for the year? For me it's not, so I just set to to where's comfortable. Now for older homes that have huge bills I understand.

I like the house at 23.5, wifey likes 19. So it's usually at 19 at night for her.

The A coil is pretty old, not worth fixing. Losing about 40 psi of pressure over 48 hours, so pretty slow leak.

I can change it myself, but simply don't have the time right now so i will pay for someone to come in an get it done in a couple of hours.

No. No AC so far.
That said, when the temp in Toronto was like 34, south Ajax was 25 lol.

I typically only have 3 or 4 days in a year where the AC is on.
