I've been exploring my options for a UWA lens for my Pentax K30. I don't see pentax releasing a full-frame body any time soon, so FF coverage isn't a high priority unless it has an aperture ring to work on my film body (pentax LX). The selection is surprisingly decent. I'm trying to keep it under $700, and closer to $500 would be better.

Pentax makes a pair of UWA zooms:
SMC Pentax-DA 10-17mm F3.5-4.5 fisheye, mostly fishy at the 10mm end, $550 new
SMC Pentax-DA 12-24mm f/4 ED AL IF, $900 new

Sigma has the 10-20mm in both the f/4-5.6 and f/3.5 flavor, $430 and $650 respectively.

Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 is also available in a k-mount for $675

Tamrom's 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 is also available at $500.

Then there's the Primes... the Pentax DA Limited lenses are really beautiful little things. Available are:
SMC Pentax-DA 14mm f/2.8 ED (IF) - $900 new, half that used on KEH

HD Pentax DA 15mm f/4 ED AL Limited - $700 new, maybe $100 less if I can find a leftover SMC version (new coating)

SMC Pentax-DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited - $500 new, but not really that wide and covers a focal length I already have with my 18-135 lens, but it's pretty. And could double as a featherweight walk around lens. Same reason I'll probably end up a 40mm f/2.8 limited that I don't need either too...

So... buy a zoom or a prime? The 18-135 lens works great for me in most situations, so I'm trying to augment it on the wider end rather than replace it.

I think the 8-16 is a good complement to your 18-135.

In the ultra wide arena, I prefer a zoom.

Love my UWA. I have a 17-40L. Sharp, fast. Constructed well. I would like the 16-35 but can't justify the price for a couple stops faster.

I heart UWA lenses, but zooms only. They're already kind of limited in function, why make it even more so (plus, I don't think there's an AF prime sharper than my 14-24)
