civic13 civic13 Post Master Registered: 04/18/01 Posts: 2659 Loc: You Know	Came home about an hour ago to an over flowing powder room toilet. It was fine yesterday night and this morning did not notice anything wrong. Note: the toilet leaks every so often because something's fucked up with the flapper. I had already replaced it but after a few months or so it started leaking again. The drain pipe of the toilet is also connected to the drain of the sink to the powder room. Running the faucet I can hear it drain properly so I am thinking it has to do with the "connection" between the toilet and the drain. Anyway, how can it go from working 8 hrs before to becoming clogged? I'm going to grab a plunger and see if tat does anything. Any help is greatly appreciated by for I bend over and call a plumber. _________________________

loudsubz loudsubz Post Master Supreme Registered: 08/16/01 Posts: 11345 Loc: Ontario, Canada	the sink may be connected to the 3" stack that feeds the toilet, but the sink would only be 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" vs 3" so it could drain for a bit before clogging up completely. It's most likely just a clog in the toilet around the trap, look online how the trap looks and you can see how easily things can get trapped. Maybe you had a bum break in and lay a steaming pile while you were at work today? Either way use a plunger and if that doesn't work grab a manual snake from home depot. They have a 15 feet version for $10 and run that through the trap to break up whatever is stuck.

I replaced all the toilets in my house...no point to try and waste time finding out what's wrong/replacing parts/etc. Home depot just had a sale on toilets, american standard for $109. Fixed all my issues. Calcium build up in toilets is the most overlooked issue anyway.

Anyway, now gotta let my laundry ceiling dry from the dripping water $\:\($ Thank gawk it's not finished but now you'll probably see there was a water issue. Damn I hate owning a house!!! _________________________

A low map rating wont always have the power to flush the waste down and you will get clogs and build ups. Costco also has good deal on toilets, everyday for $89 + get the region rebates and your new toilet could be as little as like $10

I paid $75 for my 1000 map rated toilet at Home Hardware 4 years ago, and got $60 rebate on each one from region of peel, so $15 for each toilet in the end. Edited by loudsubz (05/15/13 08:56 PM)
