Not played with one, but Hobby's and Arias' reviews have made me lust after one. I picked up a used x100 late last year but wasn't using it as much as I'd hoped I would. The v1 packages for $300 came out around then so I flipped the Fuji and got the V1 with the F mount adapter. It was cool, but my gripes were what they point out the "s" improves on. The menu system was clunky (partly just being used to Nikon's menus). Photos were crazy sharp though, it was light, solid, images looked great. Better iso performance then my dx sensor'ed Nikon I think. The v1 is better then the d300s was though, I think it's more of generational thing. I guess it just depends on what you want out of it. It won't really fit in your pocket, but it's light and you don't notice it carrying it on your shoulder. Tough enough to get knocked around a bit while carrying it on your shoulder. For me it's one of those I don't need it but I'd like it toys. If I can get comfortable inserting myself into situations a little more, then I'd probably have used it more then I did the x100. That and I was slow with operating it. I missed a lot of shots trying to get familiar with it, but that's certainly not a problem for the guys that are already in love with it.

fuckin great little camera...i'd seriously consider that one for myself, but i'm so hooked on that full frame 'look'. water resistant, tough, super fast, excellent lenses... not a bad little system. I was surprised at how little it was. I'd like it to be a little larger for my fat hands, but i've certainly not heard anything bad about it. I've not had my hands on one for more then a minute, but the people that have them are really happy.

i don't think it's dead yet, but it will be when technology catches up
But nobody will really notice because pro bodies need to be big enough for your hands, not small enough for your purse/murse. (imo)
