So I've pushed it as far as I should, and it's time to purchase something like CAA.
Any recommendations other than CAA? I think Crappy Tire has one, as does TD Visa?
I'm looking at the CAA Plus @ $107... Peace of mind I guess...

CAA is great, only problem is they won't deliver diesel if you run out of fuel. Tell me how that makes any sense

Looking at the benefits of having a membership now since you've brought this up... but honestly, I don't really see a point. Is your car not reliable anymore?

You've got ESP that will let you know beforehand when your car breaks down? Sweet!

Car's an '01 EL @ 260km ... No idea WTF to do if I ever broke down or got stuck somewhere ... The car's in tip top shape, it's peace of mind I suppose.
Battery died once (HIDs started acting weird, and stayed on ... ended up being battery was EOL) in the middle of winter, had the gf drop by with her car and I had jumper cables in the trunk .... Otherwise that's the only time I would have needed help...

It's only 100 bucks and it's worthwhile having. Even if you don't end up using it, you can hook up your friends/family should they ever need a tow. They even do flatbed tows! You just need to request it.

CAA pays for itself after one tow.
CAA follows the person, other plans follow the car.

Just got the plus for my wife. Definitely pays for itself with just 1 tow. $75 hook up fee + $3/km, you might as well bend over and take it ... If your car ever break down.

I've had CAA for 5 years now...as long as I can afford it I will always have it...even if I don't use it.
There hasn't been a year where I haven't towed my own vehicle/family/friends. It has more than paid for itself.
I even had them tow me once when I was too drunk to drive...pulled a fuse and called them for a tow saying car won't start, meanwhile I was shitfaced. Beats paying $50+ for a cab.
Lol!

so the car wouldnt run at all? wtf kind of old ass plugs were in there?
nope. at first i thought it was the battery since we are parking outside now, but it cranked over fine and i even boosted it and it still didn't start. i think they were the origional spark plugs but i didn't think that they would make the car not start at 100,000km.

saddle bag with spare tube, tire levers, CO2 cartridge. Short of crashing, I don't see the need for CAA for bikes

Because chains don't break, tires don't get damaged, spokes don't crack and bearings don't fail. Not to mention injuries that occur if you crash or fatigue. Good luck riding 50km home on a sore knee, stiff back or with a bunch of road rash.
Leave the CAA card at home and save those 3g of weight.
You go boy!

CAA also gives you a bunch of partner discounts and promotions, as well as earning $$ towards your renewal cost. Use it enough and it can pay for itself.

^ On the topic of cycling failures, I rode on a number of boutique wheels, each of which I've managed to destroy the spokes of. Unfortunately, the spoke count was so low that once a spoke breaks, u are stranded bc the wheel is near taco shape. Now I try and ride 24-28 spokes out back and despite spoke breakage even on a 24h, the wheel is somewhat round. Just adjust the brake and carry on.
If a chain breaks...well, definitely SOL. Especially with the janky thin 10sp chains these days. And sometimes, you'll get a tire puncture so bad that you cannot continue even with a new tube. I guess that's more of a tire gash than a puncture. So yeah, CAA for cyclists still make sense. What if said wife was out of town while you were out there?
Hatorade had to rescue me once when I had a bike issue out in scarbaria.

Wayne, you should have asked for a discount on your premiums because they won't deliver diesel. Worked for my parents
