flashlight and 13 second exposure.

it's over processed with HDR. my first "real" attempt at an HDR.

It’s essentially using a telephoto lens to create a very shallow depth of field as if shot with a wider angle lens.

To make this "legit", here's a non-exciting picture of cats. The only thing that makes it special at all is that I took it in manual mode after tinkering with settings for a while. Room with mediocre lighting at night (so no natural light to help). I know it's nothing fancy but I'm psyched that I'm finally starting to "get" how messing with the settings can change the picture.

Definitely more rewarding when shit turns out decently and you actually played a part in it instead of just leaving it on auto. Now I just have to find more exciting/original subjects and improve \:\)

Looking good. Glad to hear you're putting more thought into your photos. It shows. Looks like a smaller version of my two cats.

And is that Bill Shatner in the B&W street shot?

I need to take a photo of the decomposing building / shop around the corner before the place caves in on itself today. If it doesn't rain, I should have a pretty sweet image this afternoon.

Thanks! I need to stay on top of my processing this year, last year was all about sports shooting and no post-work. Maybe it's time to finally get a good monitor and learn some Photoshop.

I made it 5 whole minutes before some redneck in a F-150 pulled up and yelled "HEY BUD! WHAT YOU DOIN??? - THAT'S PRIVATE PROPERTY!!!"

I told him I was taking a photograph several times, but it didn't register. He told me I could take one or two pics but I already had this so picked up my tripod and bailed. Guess he thought I was an out-of-town college kid since there is a 4 year campus a few blocks down the street.

HDR came to mind, but I feel the same way. Tried it in B&W, but liked the green still on there from the John Deere stuff. I actually took a few exposures from the same spot at different apertures, but none of them under/over. Then Bubba showed up.

When I was photographing my Father's marriage, my grandparents came up to me when he wasn't around and offered to pay for all of the film I was using. lol I whipped out the memory card and explained how it worked. It is kind of scary for people like them that are so far behind the curve. Things like plain Jane simple cell phones are getting more and more difficult to find. They could never figure out a smart phone.

I love every ones pictures posted!

Here is one I did tonight for a watch thread in Out There...

It isn't great. The watch is over exposed. But it took me thirty minutes to get that one. I tried with the external flash, with the flash bounced, with the flash diffuser, then finally I got the above picture with an eight second exposure and using a flashlight to illuminate the watch itself. lol
