I just did an extended swim-jog brick and that SUCKED, 3 hours in the ocean then a 10k when I got home. Fucking exhausted , well, I guess I know I can jog a 10k exhausted. I do not think I will be doing this again any time soon

Congratulations on a killer race, Chris!!

I won't lie though - a small part of me wanted you to come back with tales of epic pain and misery just because that's how everyone's first 50 should be. If you can get out and run around the next day it's almost unfair to us death marchers

And ampsman's 32/826 finishers is just ridiculous!! Good show!
(but I've still got the CSi PR by 6 minutes) \:D

Yeah..I'm feeling fantastic today.

Although my legs swelled up like crazy on the 6 hour drive home last night!

Oh god, that is the worst. I had a über painful race in Kentucky where my legs were so bad they kept me from sleeping that night. Then the next morning we had to wake up and drive 9 hours back to Madison. It was agony.

You must be drowning in confidence after this race though. If you can get through your first 50 feeling that good the whole time? You can take three hours longer to finish the first half of Leadville and still be in great shape to finish!

I slept in the couch last night just so it was easier to keep me legs elevated. They look much better this morning. \:D

Yeah, I'm feeling pretty positive about Leadville right now. This course still had about 20 miles of pavement, so it kind of beat the legs up early on, so I think that's where most of the fatigue I felt came from early on. Aerobically, I was able to carry conversation from start to finish. Nutrition was fine (lived off the aid stations-didn't take a gel or block all day).

My brother took this at mile 7 or so.

Coming in to some aid station around the midway point:

Stuffing my face around 24:

Me and my pacer Joe...built like a body builder, but is a 3:00 marathoner and did States in 23 hours)

Us holding hands going for a little stroll:

More eating:

100 yards to go:

The family (and Ampsman)

that is ridiculous that you took it easy and smiled your way through the whole thing :o, I think you could split that run up 3 ways and I'd die three consecutive times somewhere out in the middle of nowhere

^^Taking it easy I hope. \:\)

Went out for a 13 miler tonight with a goal of 1:55:xx. Felt strong halfway through and said "screw it, let's do the whole damn route."

All said and done, cranked out 18.63 miles @ 2:46:31. Reaffirmed my belief that some barriers you break by sheer will, and others simply by accident.

I'm not expecting to break the 4 hour mark at OC, but have it set as a stretch goal. 3 weeks and counting...

After a week off, I ran up to the summit of Mt. Wilson at 5500ft this morning. 15 miles round trip, but 5000ft just on the way up. It was killer, but awesome at the same time.

I also found out that I made it off the wait list for the Mountains to Beach marathon in Ventura next month where I was hoping to get a slightly faster BQ time. Unfortunately/fortunately we've already planned a trip to Palm Springs that weekend. I wasn't really feeling like dealing with that stress again. \:D

Edit: it was Wilson, not Baldy. Not sure why I was thinking that.

Finally hit my practice goal of holding 8:00/mile for a 5k jog

24:51 PR just now. Went out on a 7:15 first mile ... I must have confused myself with somebody else
This is also after surfing all afternoon and kinda tiring myself out already.

Wewt ! I'm gradually getting faster.

5,500' summit. 5,000' of gain.

That's so insane. I'm still jealous about that. I can drive down to Pike's Peak and do 7,600' of vert in one push but that ends at 14,114' and it'll be 30* and snowing in July \:\(

Thanks Kent...not Baldy though...Wilson. I do use the word "run" loosely for the uphill leg. More of a jog, walk, hike, cuss, repeat action.

Hauled ass on the way down though. I couldn't run yesterday because my glutes were so sore!

Next up:
Baldy!

It's definitely nice to have access to lots of vertical. It'll be really hot in the summer, and it won't help me when climbing at 11k feet, but it's good for something at least.

A full mile of continuous vert and "it's good for something at least" #csiproblems

There are poor saps from Florida, Kansas and god knows where else who manage to get it done. Don't you be taking that mountain for granite(d) lolpun

I'm jelly, I got some good hills around here but nothing like that. \:\(
Hence me always hammering hill repeats.

I went out at 9:15 last night after putting the kids to bed and did 4 x .8 miles with a little under 400 feet of elevation per.
Nothing crazy elevation wise but my splits were 6:58, 7:00, 7:01 and 7:01.
Pretty damn happy with that consistency.

36 miles in the last 3 days and 55 for the week so far. Off to Boston in the AM so I'm hoping I can get a run in there on Sunday.

Squeezed in a nice cool 10 miler this afternoon in Boston. Ran mostly along the Charles, with a quick jaunt around Beacon Hill back to our house.

Here's to hoping the wife has a decent race tomorrow.

In the most uncreeper way possible, I promise, I looked up your wife on the BAA tracker. She is doing really well so far. Reached the 15k split in just about 1:15. Keep it up!

Texted with my buddy Drew (the big ex-Marine/current Boston FD guy) who ran it today. He said he did it in 4:54 and never had to stop. Mind you, he did this with minimal training. He said he ran beside Doug Flutie for awhile. \:\)

I'm stoked for him that he made it and he ended up raising a decent amount of money for a brain tumor charity. \:\)

I got lost in the greater Boston area on my run this evening, lol.
Tried to recreate the route the duck boat tour took us on over the river by Bunker Hill....ended up in some sketchy industrial areas and pretty rundown houses/apartments. Luckily I'd brought my phone and got back on track before getting murdered/raped.

Actually it was a pretty cool way to see a new place.
