Decided to surprise the wife and join her in the OC Half Marathon tomorrow. I don't think I'll go for a PR... Just something under 2 hrs would be fine.

Despite very little distance training I knocked out the OC Half in 1:49:16. That's going to be a PR for me.

Sick! Great job man, any pacing problems or you just went like 8:15 the whole way or so?

My friend just ran the OC marathon in 3:27, about 30 minutes over his PR but he said he just wanted to cruise lol. His 5k split was like 22:50 and the 10k was 45:30 or so haha, that fuck. When it started to hurt around mile 20 he just stood up and cruised at 8:30/mi he said and gave no fucks. Announced this as his final marathon forever \:D (will still race the half and shorter distances tho)

Lol.

Thanks man. Yeah I generally go out around 8/mi, slow to 8:30, then bust out the last few at sub-8. Seems to work well for me.

Had to bail on the MS Society 5k because the anal geysers from Saturday night were still lingering this morning. Really disappointed I couldn't make it.

Sucks, because I did a decent 32 mile road ride earlier in the day and felt really strong. All hell broke loose around 10PM.

Awesome job man!

What's up with that 85th km? 34 minutes! Did you lay down and cry? Because that elevation profile looks like hell!

But, really, you kicked that things ass!

120 miles of biking so far in May.

My groin/hips/lower abs are ruining my running, so riding the bike more will hopefully help this go away. I can run for about 5-6k then everything starts to stiffen up and it feels like my hip flexors turn to wood. I'm normally running 12k and the last half is definitely tough.

Yeah...that was a miserable split, lol. I came into the aid station there and as soon as I stopped everything started spinning and my hands started tingling and I came close to passing out. Thankfully my wife and kids were there and they fixed me up, unfortunately it took 30 minutes before I could stand up without almost blacking out.
Pretty sure I just got behind on calories due to it being the warmest part of the day and my stomach didn't want any food. Some cold water on the neck and a can of Sprite revived me. Walked the next 2 miles but then rallied to run the last 4 pretty hard.

yea that 5:00 1k split near the end had me going \:o \:o lol

great job btw. also did you post somewhere that this was harder than leadville? was wondering why? remember to please consider altitude in your answer [which terrifies me more than anything]

Chris killed it, that course is rediculous.
I however blew up. Sucks to run 43 miles and 10k of vert and come out a failure. Oh well, there will be more races.

Yeah, even after 2 days to think about it, I stand by that statement. This was the physically difficult parts of Leadville crammed into 62 miles instead of a hundred. Leadville (to me) only has 3 tough sections: the two ascents of Hope Pass and the climb up Powerline at mile 76 or so. Other than that the terrain is very mild and I never had an issue with the altitude other than moving a little slower than I might have.
This course had something really tough around every corner. 9 of the 13k feet of vert came in the first 50k. Several long descents that beat the legs up too. Lots of short but really steep climbs late in the race. Throw in a little bit of heat and exposure and yeah...it was pretty tough.

I treated Leadville as a really long outdoor adventure...never really a race. While I didn't "race" this one, I had goals in my head that I really wanted to hit, so there wasn't a whole lot of slacking off.

Yes...Donnie was a fantastic trail partner for the first 15 miles or so, till on an out and back he smelled blood in the water (all the people in front of us) and took off. \:D

I love his parents even more though....they brought me a slurpee at mile 42. \:D

My endurance is shit when running. I can bike all day, I can do the elliptical for an hour with little effort (9000 steps and 700 cal burn). But have me run and I am sucking air after a lap of a track. Ya I know if I keep at it, it will get better in time but I am really surprised at the difference between the others for me.

Great job Stickaz and Ironmom. Solid results.

I ended up running the Laguna Memorial Day 10K yesterday. Not sure how much faster I will get, given the increased activity with family and friends. But I was pretty happy with my time (6.2 @ 46:57).

I am going to be reading ampsman's article when I get a chance; I signed up for the Spartan Beast 15 mile obstacle course in September. I am a glutton for punishment. \:D

At the rate you're running your 5K, you'll have no problem.

Tempo runs FTW.

hoping to hit it at the end of june in my next oly tri on the run leg. last month I went 51:20 /soclose /notreally heh

I had a bit of a mental fade/pacing problem. Hopefully I can fix that this time. It will be hotter tho, and not flat either [~300' of elevation on the 10k/uff] vs flat.

thinking I wont go under 50:00 hehe

Anybody racing this weekend? I've got a 33 miler up at Big Bear on Sunday. Should be fun but challenging...only 3500ft of climbing, but it's all around 7k feet.

good luck man! shouldnt be too hot for you I hope!
