This is a thread with a purpose of getting some of your shots out there; whether you want to show off, find out if a picture is interesting or not, receive general comments/critiques or just to show us where the world of photographic adventures is taking you or has taken you, post 'em in here. Limit it to one per day or else it'll end up just being a flood of pictures with no real input, and please include your equipment to prevent the usual gear follow-up questions later.

There are *plenty* of equipment discussions in this forum already, so please keep the discussion in this thread to the pictures and artistic/technical evaluations of the pictures. Be critical if you must, but don't be mean or degrading about it; at the same time, I'm sure everyone will appreciate honesty, so if a shot doesn't work for you, say it!

I like it Scott, but I am totally distracted by the arch in the background. I'm not one to edit others pictures, but might i suggest a crop that takes the sky out entirely? keeping just the bridge down in the frame?

I can see where you're coming from, particularly since you can't really tell that The Arch is an arch, so it doesn't really tie in with the archways in the bridge itself. I hadn't noticed that until now because "the Arch" is such an omnipresent fact in my life.

I've got a slightly different shot that crops out the sky, but also takes out the roadway. Since this is a one-shot-a-day thread...

Lafora - awesome, what can I say?

scootergeek - I like the location but I think it could use a tighter crop. Also, I'm not sure if it's my monitor/color profile but I see all sorts of artifacts (sharpening halos, jaggies, some CA)

mrbeefhead - I like it, although oddly the WiFi sign kinda ruins it a little (obviously not your fault, but still one thing I noticed)

2000SiRacer - I love it, although I'm also really curious to see how that shot would be if given the B&W treatment

the length is the least of your worries. You centre framed the car and then tried to save it by doing a "wide screen" crop

Problem started when you centre framed the car. That just pigeonholed you in terms of composition. Can't even do shit if you wanted to recompose it via cropping.

Limerock isn't hard to photograph. Tons of greenery for environment, a bridge to use for leading or exiting and my favourite armco barriers.

lol I was just practicing panning shots man, The car wasn't completely center framed but I didnt like the look with it full height.

This is a "post one random shot per day" not "post fully polished perfect images"

That said the criticism is appreciated.

past midnight, guess I can get this out of the way for the rest of tomorrow \:D

did a creative with a new stylist and a new model last week. Coming home I didn't think I had anything since the styling wasn't exactly my cup of tea and the model was a bit too stiff and didn't know her angles. But I think I learned something out of it. At least she was skinny enough I didn't have to do any liquifying in post. Same can't be said of the chick I shot 2 days ago

My first photo with the 105mm f/2.8G (macro lens). Ironically, not very macro.

It is, however, another example of layer masking to the rescue. The drops of red food coloring in the air are from one photo, the red coloring already in the water is from another photo a split second later. Shooting with a tripod + layer masks = having your cake and eating it too.

I have tried:

fotolia.com
shutterstock.com
123rf.com
dreamstime.com

I only have stuff up on 123rf and dreamstime...the other two have basically rejected everything I have submitted to them. Rejection is tough, but a good learning device.

I would like to add that I'm making it a goal to get on with the bigger sites like Getty and UPI for editorial stuff, and I'm working on getting a press photographer's credential for Capitol Hill, but I think the photo gallery is on break, so waiting to hear back on what they say.

Two different shots on two different days. First one took about an hour to set up, shoot and process. Second shot was a more careful, thought out approach to correct issues I had with the first attempt. Same mug with the same beans.

(I know this breaks this one shot a day policy, but I wanted to show the comparison)

For the second shot I lowered the lights on either side to avoid direct reflections on the mug's rim. I also took a second shot with the light on CL turned off to get rid of reflections on the handle (also had to refocus down on the handle). Lots more cloning/patching to make the beans pretty and curves adjustment to give it that warmer color.
