And it's pissing me the fuck off. My bench is so low, it's not even funny. But my cardio shape is off the charts good. So, that sucks.

Same here. But i want to be fast and ripped more than i want to throw weights around.
No desire to be bigger either way.
And at 37 being ripped and in great shape is way more remarkable than being a meat head.

That's those guys "job"...

And are NFL receivers really pictures of cardiovascular perfection...? I mean they do 10-30 yard sprints with 60 second rest periods for a max of 35-40x over a 3.5 hour period...

I highly doubt they could play soccer at the level of a professional...

Cardiovascular health and endurance are two different things.

Furthermore, while receivers might not be able to run at the same level as soccer players. That doesn't necessarily mean they have worse cardiovasuclar conditioning or endurance.. Just that they aren't as good runners.

But I do agree that specialization breeds weaknesses in other areas.

I think the point he was trying to make with the receivers is that they have a good balance between strength, speed, power, agility, stamina, endurance, balance, etc.

In my opinion the epitome of a balanced athlete is the olympic gymnast.

Pretty sure Silock can't either and I'd bet they can outrun, otu lift and outdo any of us in anything physical.

Point is...you can serve 2 masters at our level.

Are you implying you are on the same level as the NFL receivers?

Prototypical NFL receiver is not Gods gift in the weight room... Ever watch the combine and see these guys lift...?

Yeah they can lift more, jump higher, run faster than me but that's not saying much when their livelihood depends on that...

Just sayin'...

Oh and perfectly shaped pectoral muscles does not equate to strength...

Weren't we just saying that the receivers DO serve 2 masters? They have to be fast, strong, explosive etc. Not as explosive as an offensive lineman, but surely more than say a marathon runner.

I disagree... They don't have advantages over other players on the team in the strength department...

There may be one or 2 freaks that might have that ability but unlikely that any WR is in the top 1 or 2 in upper body strength on his team so I think your ascertation is incorrect...

I'm thinking there's something be lost in translation here with the "2 masters"...

And I'd venture to say there are people here that are stringer than NFL receivers... So to make that statement just isn't valid...

I've got a good balance. I have solid cardio and strength. I am in the best shape out of anyone I play hockey with and I'm still throwing around some heavy weight. Can always improve, but I don't know if I'll get much better in any one area (looks, strength, cardio).

OB1, what is your deal lately? You have to turn most of the threads you enter into an argument.

You are here comparing people who are naturally gifted AND have been working out for a living since middle school against people with normal jobs who workout for fun and hobby.

The point of the saying is that you cannot be both at your prime vis a vis cardio endurance and be the strongest you could ever get, and vice versa.

NFL players I really don't want to talk about, because they are all on something, which bridges the gap between two masters.

I could definitely run at the professional level . . . It's the skill area I'm lacking in

I'm just bitching because I'm weaker at this point this year than I was at the same point last year. Although, my conditioning is worlds better. So, it's a give and take.

Everyone has a continuum between maximum strength and maximum endurance along which they reside at any given time. Pro athletes are no exception to this rule. The key thing with them, though, is that they start so much higher with their natural gifts that it makes the rest of us mere mortals look pathetic. But there are countless stories out there of football players, soccer players, tennis pros, etc., that have sacrificed muscle mass for better conditioning.

I'm in the best cardio shape of my life, but no clue what my bench is. Ignorance is bliss with that...

Silock is on the money here. Those guys are examples of themselves.
With my relatively slender frame, the highest my bench has gotten is 305 and my
Weight 190.
But i did no cardio. Ive learned to embrace my genetic gifts.
If i were a member of a primitive tribe my job would be to run down the prey
so that the big guys could carry it home. I was not meant to be a hulk.
My myostatin resistance says so!

Jesus man give it a fucking rest once with the knowitall routine...

I'm sure someone here could outrun some of the NFL in a 50 yard dash or whatever measurement you chose... And vertical leap too... And some if the NFL players wives are fairly hideous...

You've been attacked far too long that you read that as an insult... Nowhere in my statement was there even an insinuated insult...

You've obviously done ok for yourself, or at least that's thx way it seems from your postings over the years... Get a fucking grip "douche"..,
