There is a Sony store at the Outlet Mall nearby. They had the Sony Alpha A-55 with 18-55mm lens new in the box for $649.99
THEN, they had a deal where I could've gotten 200 dollars off if I bought a second new lens with it. I also would've gotten a 16gb Memory Stick for free.
Here is the camera at Amazon.com for 720 dollars...

So, all told I would have gotten the above items Plus the 16gb memory stick for $699.99, ALSO, they said that I could have gotten a ten percent military discount on this too. So, for $629.99 plus tax, I'd have been doing pretty good I think.
I came this >< close to buying it. But I like my Nex-3 so much, I'm going to hold out and see what the deals are on the NEX-7. This store hasn't gotten the NEX-7 just yet, but they took my name and will call when they have some.
They also don't normally do the military discounts on cameras she said, but the manager just came up and offered it when I was standing there.
Something else, I feel that this would have been more of a sideways move camera wise. Especially with my meager abilities behind the camera. I also didn't want to start with a whole new camera mount.

The biggest thing I have heard is that there is not as much light reaching the sensor.
The electronic viewfinder was very nice though. There was lots of info in it and it was very bright as well.

Fixed semi-transparent mirrors have been used in single-lens reflex cameras from at least the 1960s (see Canon Pellix. Olympus was the first - in the year 2000 and with its E-10) model - to introduce a similar concept to digital photography. Olympus E10 worked by splitting the light coming in from its lens into two beams: one for feeding the sensor, the other one for feeding in continuum an optical viewfinder, thus doing without a flipping mirror.[2]
Heh, I've actually got an E-10 sitting on a shelf. It's cool, but about as useful as a digital Brownie (4mp, ISO 80, 160, 320)

Yeah, exactly. The viewfinder is no longer optical, it is just a little OLED screen in there that I must admit was pretty darn neet. It gave a lot of info and was easy to see. It also had a little IR type of sensor under the viewfinder that turns it on and the big screen off when it detects a face against it. So that both aren't on at the same time running the battery down.
That store called me today, they got in the NEX-7. It is the kit with the 18-55mm lens. I really only want the body since I have the lenses for my NEX-3. Also, it was new at 1349.00 dollars. I'm hoping that they will get some refurbished ones eventually.

I can't say I really see the point of the NEX-7; sure, it has a fantastic sensor, but it's going to be wasted on the standard NEX lenses, and the really good Zeiss stuff is for the A-mount (not to mention completely kills the size advantage of the NEX, which is the whole point).
I did just pick up a NEX-C3 for $400-ish. I went in there expecting to get an A37 but that was a pretty good price, and as the best camera is the one you have on you, the NEX seemed like a better option after handling both. Congrats on the purchase of a NEX-C3. About your first comment about the lack of good lenses. Sony will be introducing A LOT of new lenses for the NEX this year and next year. But beyond that, there are adapters for damn near any size, mount or brand of lens out there to be used on the NEX E-mount. I've taken my best pictures with a Nikon 50mm F1.8 which dates back to 1984. It really is a very fun camera system that is easy to use.
Thanks! I had a Konica Minolta and then Sony DSLR in the past, so I'm pretty familiar with the A-mount stuff, but I'm pretty clueless about everything NEX-related. I think in the short-term, I want to get the 16mm pancake (for size purposes only) and 50mm f/1.8 (the LA-EA1/EA2 is an option but fairly pricey and I'm far too lazy to always manually focus), though that will depend on what Sony comes out with. I'm generally very cheap when it comes to photo stuff so I might end up going the LA-EA2 + old Minolta autofocus lens route since the NEX-specific stuff seems a little pricey (I had to do a double take when I saw the 18-200mm was $900).

I've heard good things and bad things about the 16mm pancake lens. It seems to be a love it or hate it type of lens. I seem to recall the bad things being from the earlier versions of that lens, some quality control problems I think.
Not caring about the size aspect. I've been debating on a purchase of one of the new Sigma Lenses for the NEX. They have a 19mm f/2.8 and a 30mm F/2.8, both priced at 199 dollars.
I have the Sony NEX 50mm F/1.8. It is an awesome lens. It is easily my favorite lens.
That 18-200mm lens is very expensive alright! My NEX-3 came with the 18-55mm lens, I picked up the 55-210mm lens to get more reach.

People were buying this now discontinued 1.7x Tele-extender and using it on the 55-210mm lens. I lucked out and got one in like new condition for just over 100 dollars on Ebay. It is the Sony VCL-HG1758. It is massive and makes me hold the camera by the lens because it is so heavy. But having a 58mm thread fitting and being so large, it doesn't vignette at all.
