Dudes, I still believe it is possible to gain muscle while losing fat. I did it while doing low carb. I took in quite a bit of calories but it was all protein and fat.
I am going to have to agree with you. Everyone is different. I eat around 2000 calories a day (and yes, I am eating carbs) and have been losing weight, inches and my strength gains are fantastic. Lifts are increasing every week, as well as my overall conditioning
I don't think there is a perfect one-fits-all plan, sometimes you need to work a few to see how they fit with your own lifestyle and goals.

I don't really have a set number in my head, it's not really about the scale much anymore...I just want to continue to get rid of the fat around my belly. I do feel that if I get down to 165lbs, that's light enough and I should probably increase my calories at that point...I mean I'm 6'1"...weighing in the 150s would be nuts I think. I started out at 194.2lbs.
I'm excited about my next (photo) update in a little over two weeks...I feel like I'm really starting to see some results with the lifting/dieting.
6'1" at 165 is nuts IMO... If you want to get somewhat muscular i'd stop worrying about losing anymore weight and start trying to build muscle...
I'm more concerned with losing the fat than getting somewhat muscular...so I'm focusing on that first and then I'll start building up. I know people say that you can do both and that having more muscle will actually help burn the fat away but for me, it's just better to do it in steps...I like structured setups like that.

Average weight was 213 lbs.
800 calories is enough to provide ample protein and fats. Glycogen will come from fat stores. It's not a *huge* deal until you get to the point where your body has such low body fat that it really resists giving it up. So, nutritional support is very different from individual to individual, as is recovery. Do you still write extensively anywhere? I know you have that one website, but I don't think it has been updated. You always have pretty knowledgeable Berkhan-like opinions.
I did until I started working on my master's thesis. Now I just don't have the energy. And I'll be going straight into my doctorate after that, so I'm not sure when I'll get back to it.

I have a Zojirushi NS-TGC10 Fuzzy logic that a Japanese friend recommended. It's a big one and I think it was around $150 IIRC.

I eat oats raw. Little water to make it chewable and that's it.

Alright...so here's the scoop on Oatmeal...
First, you have to get the right stuff, and that's Coach's Oats from Costco. It's all natural, has great texture, and tastes really good.
There's two versions here...first my wife's with milk and mine with water and other good stuff.
You also need a large pasta plate so that the oatmeal does not spill over. I use a 12" plate...
Add 1/3 of a cup of Coach's Oats oatmeal...
One cup of milk (adjust the amount of milk to how runny you like your oatmeal)...
8 minutes in the microwave @ 80% power. No need to stir while it's cooking, and comes out looking like this...
Let it cool a little, stir and enjoy.
Now my breakfast...same quantity of oatmeal but with more water because of the added protein later...
Same cooking time, and when it's ready, 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder...
Mix the protein powder and then mix in 1 tablespoon of crushed walnuts...
Final step is to sprinkle some cinnamon on top and you're done. It tastes so damn good, it's like dessert every morning...it's a huge quantity, so it's very filling, and it's 350 calories and 33g of protein.

The pound per week...or the 0.45lb a week for me? Are you suggesting you can put on 25lbs of muscle in a year? PA2 is suggesting 50lbs...
Not really because it wouldn't be a linear line, more like a curved one. For a beginner, I would imagine that you could put on 1.5-2lbs of muscle for the first 2-3 months (maybe) but then it would gradually get less and less as you get past that initial beginner gain.

Oh, I hope that didnt come off as agressive, sorry. Thats just me personally too I wanted to share in case others aren't too strict on their "eat this with that, and not this with that"
Nope, I train on about 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce and a bit of water. My Crossfit workouts are at 7am, Monday to Friday
I have tried different combinations of food (protein shakes, toast, etc.) and I always end up throwing up in the middle of my workouts (not self induced). This works for me. I don't know anyone that comes in for the 7am that actually eats. We are all empty stomaching it that early in the morning.

Indeed I do.
Depends on what people want to get out of it. The coachs plan for 6 days a week, so I could potentially do that many days - the only reason I don't is because I work on Saturdays.
Some people do it a few days a week, but all of the programming is meant to allow for 6 days. I would say about 25% of the members at my place do unlimited, the majority do 3 days a week.
I also do hot yoga 3-4 days a week and will be starting some running soon too. Some people just take it easy, but I have a goal to progress in this sport, so I am doing it 5 days a week (and when school ends, I will be doing the Olympic lifting training once a week too). I am very fortunate to train with an amazing coach and some incredible athletes that compete at the provincial level, so I have some great role models Honestly, I have never been happier. This place has completely changed my view on fitness, community and healthy living as a whole

This is right after an hour of Crossfit for me.
Because of my eating disorder, just getting a regular meal in without throwing it up is a good meal. I'm not interested in any sort of fancy rules for my eating. I eat to live, stay healthy and enjoy my life. Screw food rules.
Oh, how this makes me so sad.
I fully realize there's no logic or reason to your disorder. With fitness, what you eat vs. the results you get and the way you feel during and after your workout are inextricably linked. Just a positive thought for you.
As long as you don't become and "exercise bulemic" you're good.
I just want you to be properly fueled so you can get the great results you're striving for.
I can speak for our little gang and say that we're all rooting for you and we want you to be healthy and happy.

So you're training 5 consecutive days then...? i'm not real familiar with the CF stuff, so I'm just wondering if that's the norm in the CF culture...
Most programming is dependent on the person doing it, if you're adept 5 days in a row should be enough varied programming. The only thing I really can't get behind is some of the programming I feel conflicts with muscle recovery. I've been taught even by bodybuilders that the muscle group you worked out on needs at least 72 hours of recovery before hitting another workout with that group or it will hamper growth.
But the crossfit training seems to throw that theory right out of the window, one day we'll do cleans (full squat) and the next we'll do 2 rep max front squat which is essentially the same lift minus the clean. All of the same muscle groups are utilized. Or like how I did 75 kettlebell thrusters, then had a workout the next day where I had to do 30 overhead squats while all of those muscle groups are still recovering.
That is my ONLY gripe with crossfit programming. But then again the bulgarian training method doesn't call for rest days at all, the theory behind that is if you had to squat your body weight 50 times to save one of your family members lives would you be able to? So with said mentality what would you have to do daily to build that kind of strength. A garbage man moves 100+ pound bins daily, his job doesn't give him a rest day. etc, etc, etc.
Some days I go in feeling like I've been gang raped and after a workout it's like everything has been reset, stretched, and in less pain. So I don't know what to believe but the training we're doing now is way too fucking intense for my body to handle 5 days in a row with proper sleep and nutrition since I'm cutting.

Thanks hon
And yes, I complete understand the whole nutrition thing. I have a wonderful nutritionist, and I follow basically along the Canada Food guide. It's been just fine for my training. If I were to go back to getting overly concerned about fats with carbs and no fruit before 6pm and no vegetables without chocolate cake, it would just propel me further into the disorder (as I already have done)
This way of eating of competely healthy, well balanced and even more important, something I can do for the rest of my life.
The major aspect of my bulimia is anxiety. If I get too stressed or caught up on things, I purge. So, by having my nutritionist set out basic, easy to do parameters, I don't hyper focus on things. Like I have said before, it's nearly impossible to be bulimic and do Crossfit. I have only had one "relapse" over about 3 days since I started Crossfit, and it took me almost a week to recover physically from it.
