That's what I thought too until I started reading a lot of wedding photographers and talking with some (good ones) who give the digital negatives with little editing.
Extremely stupid. Why would you represent yourself with an unedited photo? Unless you can get exactly what you wait straight out of the camera, which isn't always possible, you HAVE TO post process in order to make a deliverable product.
I do the complete opposite...if they want the unedited photos, or the ones I wasn't planning on keeping because they were "technically flawed", I charge the person for them.
