Never seen those things Scott posted for onboard flash before. Pretty good execution of a rigged diffuser. Might have to look at them to keep around just in case.

onboard flash? that straps to a speedlight \:\)

I read on camera flash as onboard flash. There are tons of options to diffuse a 430EX II. My omni-bounce was $10 and plan on more stuff like that.

Fking SUV - Great deal! Yep, you left plenty of room for a 55-250 or a good start towards a 70-200 f/4L. It's a great feeling to have all the stuff you need + change. Just think, you could have had the same camera with weather proofing and none of the other gear for much more... Excellent choice. ;\)

i've found the omnibounce is a great gel holder.

not a WHOLE lot more than that, but it's a great gel holder.

the thing scott linked looks a good deal nicer than the fong origami, and it's priced between that and the whaletail stuff.

that reminds me, i need to spend ~lunch money on a set of decent gels. I just hate ordering stuff around the holidays because of all the extra time it takes to get here

I meant speedlight - I should have quoted the suggestion to get one since that's what I was thinking about when I posted.

The promax is much more functional than the gary fong bowl thing - not least of which because it actually attempts to control the light direction. and it works differently in different configurations. Ideally, you want to keep the light off the camera, but that's not always practical (especially with Canon, lol).

Get the cheap sampler platter.

And Honl and Lumiquest both make decent gel holders. I just use the one that came with my SB-900 for now, but I keep planning to get one for the SB-600

I had the Origami, and it broke.

A friend of mine had the Origami, and it broke.

Don't get the Origami.

I'll look into them. That sampler platter is pretty cool.

No kidding on shipping. I meant to order something by lunch today. Chances are I will not see it until next week, now.

Like all Pentax DSLR bodies, mine is weather resistant and so are both of my lenses...

We were talking about Canon bodies and lenses in this thread. Good for Pentax.

I'm (still) acutely aware that Joe has a few real weather proofed lenses. Almost bought one of them instead of my 135L.

That wasn't the point of my post, but - I do like that one vs the clear ones I've seen.

Could have used it this morning out in the sleet / snow.

I've shot in some pretty terrible weather without additional protection without issue. Short of full immersion into water, I don't think there's much to worry about and short of an ikelite housing, there's not much to save you from full immersion.
