possibly. i struggle a bit to find "where" on my "ass" i should actually be "sitting." sometimes i think i'm square on my sitbones and i go numb after 5 minutes.

sometimes i feel completely comfortable and feel like i could crank away for hours, and sometimes i'm uncomfortable after 5 minutes and i fidget on the saddle continuously.

I should note, that I've only observed this on the trainer. I didn't feel it at all on the 2 hr ride I did over the weekend.

Huge difference, actually. When the bike is fully stationary, it'll definitely irritate every part of you more than when it's allowed to move around freely out on the road.

An hour on the trainer can equal the discomfort of 3 hours on the road for me sometimes.

Ugh, I went down hard on the concrete 2 days ago, low sided a fast corner in damp conditions trying to be a hot shot. Now i'm sitting here in pain, missing a giant chunk of flesh on my leg and I can't ride. Worst part is I have a 24 hour race in 3 weeks so I was really increasing my riding, a week off is going to be hell.

had a big day today. rode 22 miles to my cat2/3 road race, which was 56 miles, then rode 22 back home...oh yeah and it was 89 degrees. I made it 52 miles into the race and lost the wheel on this .3mi 9% kicker. It was windy up top and i couldnt close the gap back to the field so i cruised in the last 3 miles to a 36th/50, 5 min back. then proceeded to blow myself up on the ride home due to headwind/heat and i flatted 3 mi from home, changed tube, pump doesnt work, FU! est. power numbers looked good for the race...1hr 323watts, 2.5 hrs 290watts. 99.6 miles and 6100ft of climb total today
big last 3 weeks: 11hr 13min, 10hr 17min, 11hr 20min

Crazy bastard riding to and from a race.
Where are you getting your power numbers from? 323W for an hour is really good but 290w for 2.5 hours is crazy.

They are just estimated on strava. Not sure how accurate they are..i still use them as a gauge though of how hard i went. Plan on getting a stages powermeter in the fall

So it's just a virtual power meter, must just estimate it based on your speed/cadence/grade. Probably not really accurate but as long as it produces repeatable results it at least gives you something to compare to previous rides which is the most important.

That stages powermeter is interesting, have never seen those. By the looks of it though it doesn't send out realtime data to a display, only logs it, also a shame that you can't install it yourself and that you need to buy a new crankarm.

i think they calculate it based on speed/grade/hr/weight...either way last mon i did a power hour where i rode like 95% max for a hour ,est. 251watts...so i just use that for my next power hour ride. not super accurate but itll work for now.

stages benefit is i can get it for 500 bucks...i believe team sky uses them too

Ya probably not super accurate, you're definitely much stronger than 250W for an hour.
$500 is a good price for a power meter that looks to be just as accurate as the competition, the only thing is no HUD. How can you train based on power if you don't know your power output during your ride? Maybe I'm missing something.

I got a ride in today indoors since it hasn't stopped raining for 24 hours, leg felt good though the patch of missing flesh was a little sore, leaked out lots of orangeish fluid that I can only describe as the grease in the bottom of a pizza box. Hopefully it's healing fluids.

it's gotta be something like this. i have a trainer that rocks side to side to try to better replicate the road. i had squared everything up on the trainer on Friday to make sure it wasn't leaning. the trainer workouts are only 1hr and about halfway through i start going numb, and i have to manually check (lol grab nuts).

2 hours on the bike on sunday with zero discomfort from the saddle. i felt great. it's gotta be something subtle with the fit or i just need to get a split saddle.

If you have an ANT+ or bluetooth capable head unit, you're all set. Pretty much any garmin works.

The stages 105 crank seems like a hell of a deal. Only 1 leg, but at that price...

Pulled the trigger on an absolute black oval chainring, should be here Monday or Tuesday. For some reason i'm really excited to see what this does to my pedal stroke and see if it actually makes a difference for climbing.

I'm old enough to remember (and have had a set of) these:



I had a later generation of them on a MTB in the early 90's. I don't remember any advantage in them.

I do remember complaints of knee issues with them.

That said, the new ones (Rotor?) are supposedly legit. I've read good things about them.

Ya the new ones like rotor and absolute black are a lot different than the old biopace stuff. The biopace rings were ovalized at the wrong part of the pedal stroke so it gave you absolutely none of the supposed benefits of oval rings, it actually made everything worse. Actually, here is a quote from abosoluteblacks webpage

"Word on BIOPACE - Please understand that this is not Biopace technology. Shimano created Biopace with the completely wrong orientation of the biggest radius of the oval. Instead of positioning it in power zone which is slightly below the level of the crank, they clocked it to the dead zone where human generates least power. The result was that in power zone pedaling was too easy and in dead zone very difficult. Exactly opposite to how it should be."

I run a single ring now so I figured for the $57 it was worth a shot.

ugh
first conscious DNF in the 2.5ish years since I started this mtb thing

first hot + humid day really. add in some nasty climbing that is exposed to the sun and absolutely no fucking wind and then the fidgety handling
poof - time to go drink a beer and just chalk it up as a way to see wtf I have to do this summer

but it was just so fast - have never had to pedal so much while DESCENDING to keep up with people (the locals)

with the trainer - how you have the front wheel makes a huge difference - is it level with the rear? make sure you aren't sitting in a very slight decline and/or incline and happen to be putting pressure on the gooch

yeah, i've got an adjustable riser... the notch i've had it in feels the closest but still feels like i'm declined a little. i'll measure tonight to see for sure and shim it accordingly.

Alright, the front wheel was 1" low. I put the adjusting ring on the highest setting but it's not as stable there. I might put a 1" book or something under it.

I got it setup and played around for maybe 5 mins this weekend. I don't really use the trainer much lately, feels like I get a decent amount of riding with my commute, but it definitely makes sitting there spinning a lot more interesting.

Looks a bit silly. I use trainerroad.com, it has hundreds and hundreds of workouts, does power metering if you have a compatible trainer and also has workouts for all the cycling videos like sufferfest, etc.

ehhh, i rode easy on the trainer for an hour last night... still uncomfortable though i didn't go numb this time. i had to come off of the saddle a few times, tho.

Put that front wheel nice and high. You dont need to be aero indoors on a trainer.

As far as zwift, got an early invite through the team. It was... honestly, I'd rather just watch movies or TV. It does do a simulated power meter since my trainer is compatible, but big deal.

Some of the guys on the team log some serious miles on zwift. I dont get it.

zwift is a blast to compete with others and pros in real time. Id rather do a 10 min threshold effort battling someone than just watching the minutes click by
