Right now no, in the future maybe yes (when I run a side business and need more time away from the full time job).
15 stacks is a lot of cash though, i doubt many people would take THAT big of a pay cut. 5k is more realistic.

That's basically my current job schedule since my client is in the US. I wouldn't take 10K pre tax for 2 hour extra commute. That is like 6k after taxes, not life changing at all. But that 2 hours is.

Yeah but remember we get killed on tax so that 10k (I would rather not lose 15 haha) is more like 7k. Savings on gas and time alone may make up for it.

I'm about to take a 22k pay cut because of it, but it'll also free up some days of the week. Commute is just as far, I just do it less.
I leave my house at 7:10, get on the 7:31 train getting into union just after 8. Take the subway to bloor, ride across bloor to jane, take the bus up jane to dundas st w, then walk a block, in my seat by 9ish. On the way home, leave at 6:20, in the house at 8:20. 4hrs and $20/day, do it 4 days / week.

I'll keep my 'M' postal code any day of the week over BBQ'ing on the front porch.
Honestly though, have you considered driving to Kennedy, and exiting the subway at Dundas West? Two fares, one parking receipt + gas.

I left my house at 7:40 this morning, drove to the go station, parked, got the 7:53 train, and I was having a coffee at work by 8:30. No rush, leisurely drive to the station, leisurely walk to work from the station.

I think it's funny that you think he is nuts because of a 2 hour commute yet yours is very near 1 hour. I mean, ya, he's shitballs crazy for doing that but I also think you're crazy for travelling an hour. I know I live near a shithole city but I think I would take this shithole anyday over living in the land of the commute.
less then 5 minute drive for me to work, so no, i wouldn't take a pay cut.
Bit off topic, but when I was younger I would work stupid hours just to take home a nice fat pay cheque. I'd work 6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day and go to bed happy thinking about money. Now, the older I get the less I care about what my paycheque says. There is nothing I love more then pulling into my driveway at 4pm and having a nice 6-7 hours of free time.

It's all about a good work/life balance. Also living and commuting in the GTA is usually because that's where most job opportunities are and of the places where you can really build a progressing career (depends what you do)
On top of that people bust their ass earlier on in life so they can get to a position and sort of chill out. They could never get to that position otherwise without busting their ass for the experience beforehand though.

Alpha, you are 100% right, but my question to all of you is: do you plan to work for your employer forever?
If i buy a house one day, I don't know where to buy because my next job can be anywhere and I know that in order for me to pull down decent coin I need to move around every 2-3 years. I can't guarantee I will have a job near my house and that's what sucks. Do you guys plan to work for the same place/location for the rest of your life?

$10-$15k? that's about $6k to $10k in take home that I'd lose ...
Currently, the wife, kid and I car pool. I do all the drop offs (kid to school first, then wife to work, then i dump the car at the secondary office (parking = $25 / month) and take the subway down (VIP metropass = $107 / month). Gas bill is about $300 / month so that gets us $420 / month
If I got a job closer to home, wife will still have to drive but use less gas while I'd have to take a 2nd car - so gas bill is about the same (for arguments' sake). My metropass cost will roll to her monthly parking cost (it's actually $120 / month in her building) ... so the cost would stay the same.
So nope. That won't do.
Plus there are other perks at my current job - current manager is really easy going, doesn't mind I come in late and leave at my regular hour (cuz I do citrix in from home at night to take care of stuff w/o asking); and the new guy on my team is a P. Eng. so I'm hoping to get my P. Eng. hours taken care of so I can get my own P. Eng.
I'll probably stick it out for a couple of more years.
