Cross post from OT. figured some of you may enjoy it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRAnBgQ_B7M

just follow the links at the end of the videos. There are 4 parts.

just giving some back round info on what they do(and if youve never taken a motor apart or assembled one) you will learn a few things.
Its nothing earth shattering or anything but still a decent watch(even with the annoying hoist ;\) )

I'm currently reading this:

http://www.amazon.com/Stock-Car-Racing-Engine-TechnologyHP1506/dp/1557885060

So far it is a very good book with a lot of quality information. I'd recommend it to anybody who wants to know more about making engines work better for an intended purpose.

Instead of buying a M3 and spending 44K I would buy a 2011 ford mustang. Then I would modify the stang to make well in excess of 1000whp and actually have a usable torque band. With the left over cash I would then by a SVT Raptor and a new enclosed trailor to tow the mustang where I wanted. With the left over money I would buy euphoric some blow and a weekend in vegas.

Get the book and you will see why what they are doing to that engine that is so "special" is 20-30 year old technology.

The problem is, by the time it is in book form, it is still 10 years old technology and you are still behind the curve of a successful modern day race program.

the only thing I learned from that video was about the plateau brushes.
I've never heard of them before. seems like a logical step, and a great way to squeeze ~50k(made up number) more miles from your good-compression motor.

otherwise, I don't see what the big deal is. Supras have been making 1000Hp since '98.

Not trolling, just trying to say.....you can buy an all motor small block making 900HP for your Outlaw for the same price. I dont think it's worth it.

Its cool though,I mean, just 'cause it's making alot of power.

And good on that C5,I love me some all motor!

Yeah, that was a pretty neat feature...I was very interested in hearing what the engine builder had to say about easy break-in and how it effects ring life, bore shape, etc. but of course that fukn doofus host stepped all over his explanation with some retarded commentary of his own \:\(

Even my backwoods PA machine shop did a plateu brush in 2006 on my engine. Its been around since smokey yunick was a crew chief in the early days of nascar.

Still, a plateu brush is cool and all but the real issues arise with cylinder wall distortion as the block heats up. Makes torque plates seem like a small bump in the road when confronted with real world distortion data from just heat. Because of this hot honing is trickling down from (once again) nascar and formula one.

Then you get into engine specific issues such as motor mounting and block flexing and twisting. Camshaft twisting etc....
