Unemployment kinda sucks. Lots of time, not a lot of money, and it's tough to hold to a schedule for eating, gymming, etc. It's been sunny, so i've been able to go kayaking, biking, and just generally bum around... for the first time in a LONG time. I did a 48 mile bike ride last weekend, I've been as active as I can afford to be.
It's been an awesome summer. I'm about to cross the 50lb lost mark. (I figure Tuesday more'n likely I'll pass it). This whole time though, since i'm broke and jobless, I keep going through my closet and wearing whatever I can find as I wear out/stain things. When I started gymming it up, I was in a 38" pant, and a 2XL or 18.5"-32-33 shirt. A week or so ago, I realized that I had a couple XL tshirts kicking around that fit me. Odd, but i ran with it.
A couple days ago, I was complaining to a buddy that my jeans looked like hammer pants, and I really needed to stop buying straight leg jeans (shaddap, i know, i know, don't gimme no shit). We were chatting and he made a comment that went something like "well since youre losing weight, it makes no sense to go buy more jeans. Just hit up Value Village or something!"
So today I just did that 'cause i'm unemployed, broke and figure they won't fit in 2 months. Picked up 2 pair of jeans. Grabbed some 36s and went out the door. Less MC Hammer, more taper. More win. Too bad I screwed up when I bought 'em.
Stopped by my brother's place and told him what i'd been up to, he dopeslapped me, and was like "I have a pool table COVERED in my old clothes. Come get them out of here!". I'm 5'7", my bro is 6'. He peaked at about 280, he's 175 now. We go downstairs and he hooks me up with an entirely new closet. Remember those 36s I bought? It's too bad that apparently i'm a 34 now, 'cause I got like 4 pair of 34" jeans from him that fit, and now I have a pair of 36s I just paid money I hardly had for! lol go figure. I didn't even TRY 34s, 'cause I haven't worn those since like 7th grade.
He hooked me the fuck up.
3 suits that are too big for him. My only suit I owned until today was a 52 Executive (fancy pants for "fatass deskjob"). I now fit in his old 44/46s. I ended up with a bitchin' Versace, a Kenneth Cole and a couple others.
1 sport jacket,
11 XL tshirts,
9 awesome button-downs. There's some Versace, some Hugo, some DKNY...
4 pair of jeans,
4 jackets,
3 shortsleeve button-downs.
I've worn shitty tshirts and jeans for years 'cause finding clothes that fit when i sat down was impossible. I'm actually the most up on fashion of any of my friends, and they ALWAYS give me shit for dressing like a bum, but telling them where they're fucking up. I always said the day I could wear good clothes, i'd start. Apparently, that's tomorrow.
So to fit these in my closet, I had to nuke what amounts to TEN YEARS of fat clothes. I've got about 5 double-fatass Ts i'm hanging on to for sentimental reasons, but I just threw
25 tshirts
3 polo shirts
4 pair of jeans
5 pair of slacks
3 pair of cargo shorts
all into my first bag of donations. It's kinda wierd, but man, getting rid of the first batch of fatass clothes is really a burden off my mind. it's finally concrete proof that I am making headway towards my goals. Seeing myself in 34" jeans blew me away this evening. It's not like i squeezed into 'em... they properly fit.
But yeah, here's to the first load gone... and a brother who hooked an unemployed brother the FUCK UP with an awesome closet of goodies.

This was my first clean out...not even the entire thing. LOL bad bad bad 
I think there were 30 something pairs of pants, and 60 something shirts. And that was AFTER a few people took things they wanted out of it (at least another 15 pair of pants and 30 shirts). It was craziness!
It sucks when you lose and then you have to keep spending on clothes. I pretty much kept getting jeans and stuff at Old Navy because they were so cheap. I could pick up shirts for $3 or $4, and jeans for less than $10 easily from the clearance rack. Not what I wanted to wear, but I wasn't willing to spend a ton of money for shit that I was only going to be able to wear a few times before going down another size.

That is great news, congratulations!
Those new close will also keep you motivated because you literally won't have the room to slack off, your pants will tell you when you have not been hitting it hard enough.
Maybe those new suits will bring you some good luck and you will land your dream job. Sometimes luck/karma comes in waves and you just have to be in the right spot to ride along.

@Pak: So that's the thing right? Success begets success. I'm jobless right now because i'm waiting for contract paperwork to come through. I'm actually starting my own contracting agency right now. Netted myself a happy little raise for doing the same job I did before, plus i have other people working for my company. I am convinced that I was allowed the opportunity to start my own by my manager on-site because he saw me being personally successful.
I'm so very convinced that when people see others who are successful in their personal life, they allow them more opportunities in their professional life, because they feel they're more capable of handling the challenges. Who wants to give opportunities to a guy who's proven he can't control his life, much less job? I know 6 mo ago, my boss would have told me to find another agency to work for but when I asked the pie-in-the-sky "can I work for myself" he actually allowed it this time.
I should be back to work next week, but the company i'm working at doesn't open the door to new agencies often, especially in my line of work. There's a huge opportunity ahead of me, that might actually result in a career change, but there's way bigger opportunity there... and I really think it's because people see me motivated and not being slothful.
@Krys: It's gonna suck to undergrow these clothes, but i'm totally in the bargain shopper mode for the next few months... plus i know i can have these shirts/suits brought in at least once. I should be able to nurse these for a while, but i'm really glad that I got this haul, 'cause it's some nice, nice stuff and it was free so at least I wasn't out all the money it set him back. I'm glad to have the free stuff for now, but i'm totally gonna be back to el-cheapo and sad when these don't fit.

When I was bagging up all of my fat clothes for the homeless, I started thinking to myself. Can homeless people really wear fat clothes like these? When was the last time you saw a fat homeless person. I'm sure there are some fat less fortunate people, so i know it won't entirely go to waste. Good job on the hard work, It feels awesome dumping the fat clothes.
Old Navy , TJ Maxx and Marshalls are good for bargain shopping during transition.

Yeah. I'm cheap in general, I already shop at Marshalls and Ross. We don't have TJM here, and i'm convinced i'd spontaneously combust if i set foot in an Old Navy. 
Oh yeah. Hit the -50lb mark today. Day earlier than i figured. 2 straight days of busting ass at the gym and eatin' really really sparsely to atone for the big get-together dinner I had on Saturday (good food, but meh portion control. Chateaubriand, mussels and stuffed artichokes soooo goooood!), and i hit the number.
219. That number just looks wierd to me. Had a guy pull me aside at the gym today to compliment me and say he'd noticed the change. Dude has an interesting motivation tactic. He keeps a picture from last year in his workout book to look at and remind himself what he was. Turns out he's down about as much as I am. I think I might start keeping a copy of this picture with me:
That's me in Vegas last year with my friends. So fat my eyes don't look open when i smile, I have no neck, and that was the only shirt I could find that i could button. I couldn't tuck it in, and I had to have the tie 'cause the buttons spread out when i sat down, so the tie covered it. I'm not going back to that. A little reminder would be good. As an aside, the 2 guys in the pic are the guys that started me going. The guy in black is down about 30lb from that picture as well.

Holy shit dude that picture should definitely keep you motivated. I don't mean that as an insult either but there is simply no reason in this world anyone ever needs to be that big and uncomfortable a you know that NOW but you must never forget it.
I just realized your are in Bellevue .. my old stomping grounds haha. I worked downtown and we had this killer deli on the first floor with homemade snicker doodle cookies. Every day about 3pm I used to go down and have one of those with some milk. I got pretty damn tubby myself over the 5 years I worked there :-)

Strangely, I think I know that deli/building. Over by the transit center? Anyhow you pretty much nailed it. No reason to be that uncomfortable or awkward again. Don't intend to.
