Ok guys, Im back.

Awhile back SiLock and I stole the Pacific Rim forum to make the fitness forum. I was running a lot (for me), doing about 20-30 miles per week. I then tore my hamstring and was out of commission with a VERY nagging injury for a long time. Well, Im getting back into it...and this is my thread.

Did a run/walk combo of 2.5 miles on Friday, doing the same loop this evening.Im trying to ease back into and not force the issue at all. Full on training will begin week of July 25th (12 week training plan). From now until then, we'll be doing a more low-key run/walk stamina buildup to build up into full training mode.

Im not shooting for any specific time, just to complete. Im stoked!

Id like to clear the 2:30:00 mark for the half. That's about an 11 min/mile average. Figure that's good time for water breaks/walking time included.

I think you can beat 2:30, but that's understandable if you aren't 100%

Hey Lewlew ;\)

Yea, I think so too. When Im jogging/lightly running my leg feels fine, but it's still not 100%. I can still feel that SOMETHING isn't quite right if I do sprints or something of the sort.

I'm signed up for my first half in September. Been running pretty regularly since February to get some base miles in and get comfortable with runs in the 5-6 mile range. I'll start my training plan next week. Would really like to finish in under 2 hours, but as the temps and humidity have crept up I'm thinking that might be optimistic - summer weather is taking a toll on my pace.

My 12 year old cousin ran a 1:40 two weeks ago.

How's that for motivation?

I'm getting used to getting my ass kicked by kids. I raced in two bike races over the weekend. The same 16 year old kid won both of them.

I'm still a 10 minute pacer, thats why I decided to go for a triathlon. I know I can make up some of that time in the swim and bike. \:D

Olympic distance .9/25/6.2 in september, then a half ironman 1.2/56/13.1 in october.

I can think of nothing worse than swimming 1.2 miles. Not a chance. Ever.

Knocked out another 2.5 miles (same loop) run/walk combo. It was sooooo humid and I could barely catch my breath the entire time.

Heh, I, too, ran 3 miles on the treadmill today. Only, I did it in my Vibrams. Now I have a blister on the bottom of my foot between my toes. Yay.

4 miles this morning. I'm hanging out around 9:00/mile and would like to get closer to 8:30. Gonna have to get some speed work in every now and then.

good luck dude! you can totally do it. If my fat ass can run a half marathon I am convinced anyone can.

what schedule are you using?

i am sure you'll get ton of advice, but here's my little tidbit. do not neglect stretching after every run, and make sure you are doing quad and hamstring strengthening routines a couple times a week - your knees will thank you.

Well...I've hit a wall.

Messed my ankle up bad last night playing softball. Running into 2nd base, and then...*pop*

It's weird. It's not swollen or bruised. I can put all my weight on it. However, when I roll my foot to the outside it hurts like sin. I didn't even roll my ankle when it happened, but like I said I was running and then something popped.

Awesome.

no swelling, no bruising = you'll be just fine.

take a couple days off from running, you won't be set back at all. Rest + ice + ibuprofen.

Ok, so I lied. Took 2 days to swell up. My outside ankle bone looked like a golf ball. Swelling is down a *bit* now, but still swollen. Sharp pain rolling my ankle to the inside and outside. Going up steps is a struggle as well. If it's not better in a week, Im going to the doctor.

if you don't go to the Dr. now you have zero chance of running the half in Oct. Don't delay.

Last year I told my 50 year old father in law that darn near anyone that somewhat takes care of themselves could complete a half marathon. He trained for a few months and I got to run the half with him, my mother in law, and my wife the week after I qualified for the Boston Marathon. Just be smart about it, and just completing the half marathon distance is really not that big of a deal.
