Seriously, wouldn't it be CHEAPER in the long run to buy something that's MORE STURDY? i.e. if you can buy some ghetto-ass tent ... Hell, why do you need to store TWO cars in the same tent?

Buy 2 SINGLE car tents, assume they're $300 each. That's $600. After 1 year, yeah it's a bitch but you should be able to sell them for $150 each on Kijiji/etc, and be done with it.

$450 on a powdercoated bike, or $300 on a structure that will house the bike and car(s). Good call... Hey we all make mistakes at one time or another in life, chalk it up to a life-lesson. Btw: Are you going with pressure treated wood and deck screws, or plain 2 x 4's, 4 x 4's, and wood screws?

u can get one for $250 (single car) at Canadian tire. Just get two for $500 and it looks easy to put up. No need to get into all that trouble unless you want to do it for the challenge and the naysayers.

i think people are thinking garage (well, because you said garage) but you're probably meaning a sort of shelter, like those cheapo gazabo's which aren't secured into the ground, don't have a whole lot of bracing, don't have a sheeted roof but still manage to stand up all year 'round without falling on the people below. the only thing I'd be concerned about is the legality of it and nosy neighbours wanting to burn it down.

I think 4"x4"x8' posts aren't all that expensive. should be between $10-18 at home depot. I remember buying some 6"x6"x10' last summer and those were like $35-40.

IMO its just unusual to read about a guy who works all the time, talking about 400+ thousand dollar homes, has a good job, drives a BMW M3 and just isn't willing to spend the money that it costs to build/buy something stable. I like your stories/adventures like the Cviic in the back of the van. I think that this is going to work out to be one of your funnier stories. I don't know if I would risk it for the sake of saving maybe 2-300$ to build it "right".

Hmm...wonder if Mike Holmes will come to review the shed/garage/shelter after it's done. Wonder what he'd say? Or, maybe he'd just stand there and

I say go for it. At the best, it's a cheap, stable solution. At the worst, it's a lesson learned and something to improve on (uh...assuming the M3 doesn't get crushed).

I'd probably atleast go with 2x6's for the lowest beam on the roof. That would help resist twisting a bit more.

Ok, how about this.

My part of this garage is paying for half of it. If CSi can raise $150 bucks ($10 form each member) I will document the whole build, maybe even shirtless pics for the homos. That way i can pay my portion and give you a 100 picture build fail thread tha you can all laugh about whn it fails.
