All I have is
Xbox ---------------------------> bluray player ------------------> Yamaha 2900 receiver non working sat HD receiver ----> Old Pioneer DVR----------------->
And then the receiver is connected to the TV via HDMI so I went with a glass table solution. I want to get my neighbour to build me something custom, but no time yet.

It's the older gen xbox and it's not like I'm going out and buying all the stuff, it's already here. Yes, if I want to go through the effort I could convert all the media onto the external hd and let the ps3 do it all but there is a bit of nostalgia in the older stuff.
I will probably downsize if it looks bad but if it's there then why not.
in that case i take the xbox out and the CD changer, keep the dvd player since its simpler to operate for other family members.

How do you find the time to play all 3 consoles
He's got no kids - I'm sure he can make time.
Hmm, what's hooked up to the TV:
1. PS2 (yeah that's right, that's a TWO you see, not a typo) 2. Wii 3. Roger's digital cable box (not a PVR, not HD) 4. DVD player
We have this Ikea TV shelf (I think it was a Malm series) -- has 3 shelves in a 1x3 config which also comes with a slide down door (in case the toddlers start pressing the buttons :p ) and a slide out CD / DVD drawer underneath.

HD PVR DVD Satellite (non-working) PS3 Xbox360 Wii Laserdisc (yes, you read that right. My wife insists on it being there even though she hasn't turned it on in like 10 years) AV Receiver

dude, I'm rocking the EXACT same stuff except my DVD player is a VCR combo. PS2 ... I can'tjustify spending $300 on a gaming consol when I've got too much other stuff to do. I borrowed a Xbox360 to play MW2 in HD and I knew right then and there that if I had a PS3 or Xbox, my kids would need a new father to raise them.

1. Rogers Box 2. LG Xvid DVD Player Will get blue ray player when they will cost 50-70$ with Xvid support PS3 sux for HD .mkv files because it supports FAT32 means you can store 4G max size for each file.
having an external hdd connected to the ps3 is the old way of doing things. streaming is where its at now.
all i have is:
receiver ps3 pvr
i like simplicity...

I borrowed a Xbox360 to play MW2 in HD and I knew right then and there that if I had a PS3 or Xbox, my kids would need a new father to raise them.

for mine, in main fam room (house was mostly prewired which is great)
receiver (made sure i got a good one), has ipod/usb access lcd tv cable box, non HD (for now) xbox360 (wireless connections to my pc upstairs for streaming anything from my pc to my tv) bluray player (with wireless streamin+usb access) surround sound system switcher, using 5 of 8 connections (controls in-wall speakers in my master bedroom, master bath, living room, backyard and garage...each of which have indepedent volume knobs in the rooms, aside from rec'v control).

I've done the tvserity and PS3 server streaming before but sometimes my connection will drop half way into a movie and then I'll have to trek upstairs to reset. I like the idea of an external drive because it gives you the added bonus of a backup system away from your main computer.
if you are streaming HD, you gotta go hardwired. (ethernet over powerline).
