I dont like the Escape Grill. I have a few ideas - give me your thoughts on which one is the best. My suv is gunmetal. Maybe some of our photoshop experts can help.

Stock Grill

#1
Paint the vertical support bars in the centre black and leave center bar and outside edges chrome.

#2
Paint grill (or is it grille?) gloss back

#3
Colour match the grill to the car

I wish there was an aftermarket landrover style grille

Think so? I know it looks good on the all black one I just wonder if it will stick out too much on the gunmetal.

Hmm might stand out too much since the grill sticks out a bit

Yes I have a problem modding cars since every company does something to their cars that I have to fix.

This is a stock one with the sport appearance pkg lol.

That looks fucked because the bumper is done. If the bumper piece was colourmatched and the grille was black it would be ok, but i don't think you are down for that look. I personally like it though.

Just colourmatch it if that's what you want.

Anyway, i gotta get off this site, i want to get the fuck out of the office.

have you ever measured the rover grill?
that would be a nice project to retro that on.
dont know if you wanna spend that time/money/effort though

just use the blue oval instead of the rover logo.

or just paint it a matte silver/metal like the rover instead of all black.
you could always re-paint it if it looks weird.

I love that whole black theme that Ford has going on with a few of their models.. I'd definitely do that over the bling bling.

Grill now painted black and some of the inner grill removed- unsure if I like it. Ford symbol tinted dark with vht niteshades + clearcoat. Headlights stand out. I think I will paint the vertical bars in the lower grille black. Headlights and foglights will get light tint lamin-x on them. Or I can paint the grille to a light silver colour - as mentioned before if anyone can photoshop this it would be great.

I think it would look wicked if the foglight surrounds were also black.

You should also take the headlight housings apart and paint those black also

looking good Jeff with the current setup
if you can smoke the headlight or apply a darker tint to the headlights then it's perfect

i think it looks better than stock, but i agree with you, it's too much black and the headlights stand out. If i were you i'd paint the ends of the grille (about 1 inch from the ends) the same colour as the car. That way you colour match an inch off each end and it will look like the headlights are surrounded by gunmetal and the grille is seperate and black. I will try to "chop" it later today.

it looks really weird not to have a ford logo there. perhaps lighten on the darkness on the logo?

black out the headlights or at least throw a very light tint on the headlights and the fog lights and you'd be set.

The logo looks darker in pics but it looks like a dark chrome. Im most likely going to "untint" the centre so you can see the word FORD better.

LOL they're 16's. Tiny for the car. The tire size is 235/70(yes 70! lol)/16

I have 20x8.5's that are being shipped as we speak. 255/45/20 Silver with machined lip.

My dad saw the grill and said I should colour match it since it "looks like a base model F150" haha.

I'll put some more pics up when I get everything on there (HID, Lamin X lights, LED fogs, Rims, I also debaged the rear)

Looks good, although I would have colour matched the grill, as opposed to going black. Unless, your 20's are black w/ a polished lip. That might look good.

Hey how'd you actually paint it? Did you have to sand it a bit so it'll stick? (I always thought 'aluminum' trim was just basically ghetto sticker/paint.)

Looks like I may have to paint a trim piece on my grill (some fucker backed into it)

And what's up with the HIDs?

aluminum trim is typically plastic with a chrome sticker on it.

I sanded it down before painting and then clear coated it. Your trim on your grill can be painted. I had painted the ugly chrome on the rear of my EL and it looked OEM.

Haha that was so long ago. I've fit 2 girls in the 350 too but they had to sit on top of each other.

My friends are already giving me shit for buying this thing. I actually like it for a daily driver. HIDs are in and just had them adjusted and the ballasts secured tonight. I'm picking up my wheels this saturday so I'll take a couple of pics when they're on. The LED fog bulbs and the Lamin X for the headlights and fogs may take another week or so. The moving bulb (uses electromagnet) for the high beams works pretty well - I cant complain. No nice cut off due to the housings but I have it adjusted so it doesnt bline people and visibility is better (stock it is pretty good for halogens)

I like it. My nieghbour has a white one and all the chrome looks good on it, but the blacked out grill looks much better on the grey.

doesnt Ford offer a trim blackout option on those trucks?

also, where did you get the LED fog bulbs from?

There is a sport appearance package which has blackout items but you are limited in colours. I dont want to deal with cleaning an all black vehicle this big haha.

The foglight bulbs are from http://www.aacstyle.com. I would suggest going to superbrightleds but the bulbs the Escape uses are fairly rare for the aftermarket.
