I'm so gay for that car.... one of my friends had one, and pulled the stock motor, and replaced it with a motor full of JUN parts. I'm fairly certain it ran low 13's with full-interior, and low-enough compression that it ran on 93. (no super-high compression pistons)

itr > crx si imo.
way better engine, chassis etc My theory is that if I have to deal with no power it may as well be with light weight. From what I recall (driving my friends) the CRX was 108 hp and 110 ft-lbs of torque with a nice gearbox and good midrange torque. It didn't have much power but you could short shift the car when tearing up the mountain roads and not suffer too badly. The brakes sucked on the CRX as they do pretty much any honda from the 1990's though. They were something like 2188 lbs, so drop the spare/jack, that little cargo thing in the rear and you have a fun little hatch, 30+ mpg, can carry the mountain bike, and is a blast to drive.
I agree here. A co-worker has a CRX SI with bolt-ons, and its a lot of fun, torque comes on pretty strong at 3500rpm. It feels almost as quick as my quad4 was, even though it was most certainly not.
In fact, another co-worker has a DA teg with a B18A with bolt-ons and mild cams. The CRX feels faster then that car.

it all depends on what you are thinking going in.
It really just bored the crap out of me. The car is way too capable to be exciting. I don't know how to describe it, I guess without the drama there is no fun? It is quick enough to be doing very illegal speeds awfully quick so ya, you cant beat the heck out of it all over like you can a stock dx civic.
thankfully i have many back roads near me so I get to have lots of fun. And even in town the torch makes for some nice little squirts through traffic.
though you are definitely not on the edge with it much on city streets because youd be flyyyyyyyyying.

A lot. If you can find a stock or near-stock one in good shape that wasn't raced to death, I would think 10-12k would be a great price. I've seen ITRs like that being sold for 15k.

I think in '00, you could get champ. wht, yellow, and black.
It's also weird to me that the civic is SO much bigger than the ITR, when the ITR was a "whale" compare to the civic of it's time.

AC was a factory option starting in 98, standard in 00-01 And i think you mean 97, there are no 96 USDM ITRs Canada only had PY and CW in 00-01, and we also got a 99 CW
I miss my 98, just a comptech axle back and i did a 14.3 @ 96mph Almost traded my WRX to get it back, but the guy wanted a striaght up trade, so screw that Really really want to get another

well an itr isnt exactly something with no power. mid 14's bone stock was pretty darn quick when it debuted. I like the crx si as well. but id take an itr over it in a heart beat. I honestly dont know of many people(besides maybe danl) that would take the crx over it.
its just...way better in every way. even if its 400 lbs more.
Yeah I mean, how ridiculous is that?
I mean, at the end of the day the dc2 ITR is simply tons more fun to drive than a pedestrian crx si. Most people would laugh at anyone for picking a crx over one. I'm over here shaking my head, wondering what dan ha been smoking...

That's fine and dandy, but to say that the CRX would be more fun than a dc2 itr is just crazy. I don't have to go in depth to explain it, it just sounds crazy and is crazy.

That was part of it, but my commute begins and ends with a mile-long jaunt down a very twisty Hill Country road... even when I would push it there, it was just too capable to be any fun... and still beat the shit out of you with noise and harshness the whole way. you think it was too good? harshness? i guess im used to my civic because i dont find it that bad. and noise? thats why its got a greedy catback on it now

I guess if you were gonna leave them stock. Personally, I wouldn't be coming from the perspective that much will be left stock when I'm buying a 10+ year old car to turn into a toy. I'd take the CRX hands down personally.

even modded. the chassis on the itr is something a crx could never be. Seam welded and 20% heavier?

I'd have no problem leaving an ITR stock/near stock, WHATSOEVER. I'd do Konis to replace worn struts, braided brake lines (since those would be 10 years old), bushings (again, 10yrs old), and be set for the next 200k. I guess I'd probably try to find a used comptech intake.
For me that's the whole draw of the car... not that you can't improve on it, but that the overall package is good enough that its all-around good right out of the box. Not a world beater in any way, but all-around good.
EDIT: The same would be the case if I bought a z06.... the whole point of a car like that is that you shouldn't HAVE to go nuts on it. Hell, if you want an integra to mod to hell and back, pick up an RS for 2-3000 and just swap the engine and suspension.

I'd have to put some white TE-37's on it, but that's all.
