When that happens you won't be able to afford them, so don't worry about it Oh on the contrary. So you're financially independant? By that I mean: You don't work for someone else and you have a positive net value (ie: no debt at all!!!) ? other than mortgage (I'm married and shes a teacher) I don't have any other personal debts at all, and I have a fair share saved in the bank. Thats what happens when your a cheap bugger like me and just put all your money away and don't really spend it.
Well, that's a good thing. At least you're not one of those people with tons of debt. But by the time the cars get "dirt cheap", you'll be out of a job, your home will be reposessed, your wife will have lost her job as well (school closings) and you'll have burnt through most of your savings. By then you may be able to afford a "dirt cheap" car but your money is going to go towards the basics of survival: food, clothes, housing.
In fact, the exact opposite is happening. Used cars are going up in price. People still need wheels and are turning away from new cars and are going towards used cars. The increased demand for used cars is raising the prices on used cars, or at least slowing down their depreciation. As more demand is created in one area, prices go up. Those "dirt cheap" cars? It won't happen unless we nosedive into a complete economic depression. When that happens, nobody in the middle class will be able to afford "dirt cheap" cars.
Hate to break it to you, but like the rest of us, you're middle class. And the way they're chipping away at the middle class, you won't be able to get those "dirt cheap" cars when they do become "dirt cheap". Just like the rest of the middle class !!

Umm dude, your buds aren't going anywhere. With the printing industry being in the shape it's in where the hell are they going, how are their skills transferrable. And to b!tch over 4 hours of work between what makes and what doesn't make overtime is just stupid when you can easily be replaced.
There are a ton of people that don't get ANY sort of OT, so please save me the bs.
o rly?
4 people have handed in their 2 weeks notice today.
and guess what? those 4 people are a valuable member of the company and management are shitting in their pants about it.

listen to this man, he knows everything! just one question though, by what basis, do you figure they would close schools, when we're at the beginning of a medium population boom? New schools are going up like crazy, you think that's going to 180 within the next few years? Do shed some light, on this conflicting situation, as I have a vested interest in the continued growth of the education system.
oh...and hey, does that mean my 2000 SRV II is worth more now??

New cars suffer in a recession due to people holding on to their used cars longer. DIY repairs go up and DIFM goes down (where there is a ton of margin)

My gf is going to become a teacher and I follow news closely, here is a quick glimpse of what's in store into the future. This article however doesn't really take into account the amount of kids that were pulled out of the public system and thrown into private schools. It is however worth noting that I have no idea what school closures have to do with the economy in buddy's post above.
172 schools to be closed in the next three years in Ontario

Anna Mehler Paperny and Brodie Fenlon
Toronto — From Tuesday's Globe and Mail Published on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 10:35PM EDT Last updated on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 2:31AM EDT
.As 37 Toronto public schools sit on a hypothetical chopping block, hundreds of parents fear their schools' inclusion on a list of those up for review means their children's places of learning are already destined for closure.
Consultations on how to consolidate schools in a swiftly shrinking school board don't begin for another month, and won't bring forward recommendations for at least six. But Pete Karageorgos, whose 10-year-old son, Tomas, is in Grade 5 at Humewood Community School, said some parents fear decisions have already been made.
“I don't think that's the best way to create an open dialogue with the community, by already having a hit list of schools that might close,” he said, adding that schools play a vital but unquantifiable role outside of classroom instruction.
“The schools might be half-full according to some formula, but what takes up the other half of the school?” he said. “There are many community programs, there are not-for-profit daycares, there are parks and recreation programs in some of these facilities in the evenings.”
The Toronto District School Board has seen this coming for a while: Enrolment has been dropping since 2002, and the numbers are only expected to go down
Have you not been keeping up with demographics? The number of children per capita is at it's lowest ever in Canada. We're not in a population boom at all!
check out this graph : http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds=wb-w...owth+statistics
Most of that tiny population growth is fueled by immigration, not child births.
You have a vested interest in the education system which is why your oppinion is biased. But if you look at the cold hard facts, school closures are on the way in the upcoming years.
