I currently have a G35 coupe that I'm unfortunately experiencing some problems with. I've always heard great things about Honda, and I've owned an S2000 which was a very reliable car. I'm just wondering if you all feel that the new Si lives up to the Honda name as far as reliability goes.

Any particular problems that are common? Window motor failure? Transmission problems?

I'm looking at a used 2006 coupe with 45,000 miles on it. I am going to do my best to buy it very soon. Any input would really help. Thanks!

Matt

Oh, I forgot. How's the gas mileage? Does it take regular or does it need plus? Thanks again!

premium is recommended. There are trans problems with the 06s to mid 07, 3rd gear specifically. There is a fix out there from Honda if they are "able to reproduce the problem". The problem has to do with grinding, sticking and difficulty getting it into gear. The 06 also have a rev hang issue with the DBW throttle system. That is a simple 20 min fix with an ecu update. MY mpg with spirited driving in my coupe is solid low 30s highway and high 20s city.

I've heard something about 3rd gear before. I guess I'm just gonna have to drive the car for myself and see. As for my G35, let's see...the window motor is blown, the gauge displays all kinds of misfires that aren't possibly accurate, the brakes squeal even after 3 months of having new pads professionally installed, the transmission rattles in neutral to the point where the car moves, and it's extremely hard to drive now. I thought maybe it needed a new clutch but it doesn't. I love the car, I just need something more reliable and better on gas.

I have an 06 coupe. Third gear is sometimes balky when the tranny is cold and you try to shift too quickly. This hasn't been a serious problem, especially since I changed the trans fluid at about 60k. I now have over 100k miles and no serious repairs or problems. The car has been super reliable and I drive approximately twelve autocrosses and two HPDE events per year. I consistently get between 30 and 33 MPG in mixed, but mostly highway miles. Rev hang was never an issue with mine.

Sounds good. That's what I'm looking for...something that is moderately quick with good mpg and will last forever.

My previous generation Si ran 204K with almost no issues before I finally sold it. You can expect the same out of the current generation Si. Just keep up with routine maintenance and the car will basically run forever. Parts are cheap as well. Good luck with your purchase.

Love it. Wife and little girl love it too. Comfy and practical, with decent performance to boot. I can go pick up a load of groceries and outpace Mustang GT's on the way back. \:D

I got my Si after totalling an LX that I owned, about 2 months before they launched the MS3. If I wasn't forced to pick up a new car, I probably would have waited and picked an MS3 up myself.
