So apparently Subaru can just openly admit the 08 WRX was a piece of shit and decided it was not going to let the lancer ralliart step on their toes.
Some pretty interesting stuff in that article. New wheels, new turbo (almost STI spec), new tranny, and spoiler. Sounds like a win to me.

What transmissions did they use? AFAIK, all Subaru 5 speeds are the same basic unit. At any rate, the biggest flaws I saw for the new WRX, other than looks, were that it's still a 5 speed (the same weaker 5 speed), still the same power and they used the same shitty rubber. But the WRX is EVO competition!
No more RE92's, so much nicer rubber now. I don't know the tranny specs, but it is said to be much stronger. New WRX's mag times are close to the EVO no (not that mag times mean anything)?

WHOA WHOA WHOA!! CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!! we went over this for like 12-pages... THE WRX AND EVO DO NOT COMPETE!!!!!!!! THE WRX's COMPETETION DOES NOT EXIST!!!! and the EVO and STI compete!!!!
I *heart* changing the rules to make ourselves the winnAr!

This should be interesting, though. I'm willing to bet the WRX and ralliart are pretty darn close, now. probably one of those "this one turns better, but this one goes ina straight line better" how does price fair when you meet option-for-option?

The WRX hatchback looks 50 times better than the sedan to me, but then I like hatches.
Also, how much difference do you think it will make that the Lancer Ralliart will have a complement of LSD's vs. the WRX which I believe has open diffs now?

It sounds like the model lineup for Subaru and Mitsubishi got back in line with each other. Craig probably does have syphilis, but from what I remember in the other thread, he nailed it: 2008 WRX = 2008 Ralliart. All you assholes who were so up-in-arms about that can go pound sand.

My main point was that the base EVO and Sti shouldn't have been pitted against each other in that test.
The EVO and WRX should have been, or the FQ300/Sti... and it seems to be holding true. The rest of my rant was that Mitsu gets penalized in the class for improving over the years, while subaru gets two thumbs up(someone's boxer-esque sideways ass) for staying mediocre. Now, 6 years later, they're re-aligning the match-up.
If you remember... the WRX came and Declared the US WRX-territory... then the EVO came(that was a CLEAR mitsu +1)... then the STi came(ZOMG!! EVO KILLR!!).. and then the MR/RS came(ZOMG!!! mitsu has DONE IT AGAIN!!!)... fanboy, or not.... mitsu has answered-back to every step that Subaru has made with the Impreza. It's not the other way around. it's just taken subaru this long to match/catch back up.
I'm not really sure why nobody sees it. Is the media bias really that convincing (vote hillary!)

The cars should be compared at a certain price point, which is why it has been STi vs. (base) Evo. The MR is now just under $40k (base price), if you haven't noticed.

sooooo
The genesis/lexus comparison post a couple pages down is invalid because it costs $7k less? (I know this argument isn't in my favor, but it sure proves a point)
The supra/300zx/3si couldn't compete against eachother because there was such a variance in price?! You'd have to compare the Z32 Turbo to the MKIV N/A?

Do you think that the Genesis is going to steal a significant amount of sales from the GS350? Are potential buyers cross-shopping the two?
Next, switch "Genesis" and "GS350" to "Evo" and "STi". Do the answers change?
EDIT- The points of that article are that you can get a car that is almost as good as the GS350 for $7000 less, and (this is important) that there is no direct competitor for the Genesis. Did you read the section titled "Directly Incomparable"?
Directly Incomparable Hyundai isn't shy about its targets for the Genesis. "While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Lexus ES, Chrysler 300 and Cadillac CTS," the company stated in a press release about the car's pricing, "Genesis' performance capabilities and luxury features are comparable to sedans costing tens of thousands of dollars more." In other words, Hyundai's strategy for hitting the luxury market target is to hit the competition where it ain't.
So the Genesis is a large, rear-drive luxury sedan that's priced like a smaller front-drive one — at 195.6 inches long it's just 2.4 inches shorter overall than Lexus' flagship LS 460, but the $33,000 base price for the V6-powered Genesis is more than a grand cheaper than the base price of the entry-level ES 350. There isn't really anything directly comparable to the Genesis at Lexus or, for that matter, at any other manufacturer.
So the GS 350 winds up in this test for being the closest thing Lexus has to the Genesis in price, mission, character and specification. Still, the rear-drive V6-powered GS 350 is somewhat smaller than the V8-powered Genesis 4.6 and it costs more. Way more. The Genesis 4.6 carries a base price of $37,000, while the Lexus starts just under $44,000. And if we had opted for a V8-powered GS 460 as Lexus' contender, the price chasm would have grown to more than $12,000.
As tested, the GS 350 came fully equipped at $49,670. The Genesis showed up with a $4,000 Technology package and a $42,000 sticker. That's a thick $7,670 price difference, in case you haven't already made the calculation yourself. Yet the Genesis essentially matched the Lexus luxury for luxury, gizmo for gizmo.

I did read it. that's why I said it wouldn't help my argument.
spec-c? is that a production WRX? or is it more like the Fq400? because... there's the fq400 if it is... ...just sayin'
mitsubish has been letting subaru make the first move since the early 2k's. everytime they do, they find some way to one-up them.

they don't? You guys are saying yourselves that the base evo has to compete with the Sti. That leaves 3 more "levels" of evo, and only one WRX. Fuck price. people don't chose the subaru over the EVO for price. You'd have to be an idiot to shop for a performance car like that. If you are shopping for a performance car by price-point, you're an idiot. you shop-out corollas and accents; @ $30k, people aren't going to squable over 2-5k. I SURE as fuck would be willing to pay the $7k for an EVO over an STI if I know it will hand an STI it's ass, and come with the SST transmission. Bottom-line is that if people want the fastest AWD sport-compact they choose the one with 3 diamonds.
whether you're handing someone $30k, or borrowing it, another 5k is shit. ZOMG! $80/month.. but ZOMG!@# a better CAR!!!
If you want to nitpick the fucking thing, you should be driving a 15 year old DSM, or a 2002 220HP WRX with $15k in mods!@!@ You are clearly not the person the Evolution OR the sti is targeted to. You're the same as the fucking clown that says " I was going to get the 350z track-edition, but I decided to get the maxima se instead. it's got the same motor, and I saved $15k!! I can pump that into mawds, and totally hang with a z!!! Maybe you're the same person that buys an RX-8 thinking "well, it's ALMOST as cool as an s2k, I mean.. it's slower, doesn't handle as well, doesn't stop as well, doesn't have a soft-top, like the rest of it's class, and the motor eats itself on occassion, but I saved $4000, and STILL a RWD.. whatever the fuck it is!!"
I'm not a fucking idiot. When was the last time you bought a new car? If your entire car-purchasing history is 2nd-hand, you have no right to have an opinion. subaru, mitsu, hyundai, or jaguar could give two shits about your opinion. They don't see your money. ever.
That being said, I've never, either. For one excuse or another, I haven't and likely won't. mitsu/subaru could give two shits about my opinion. the fact of the matter is that for EVERY version of the WRX that subaru has, there is a faster/better performing evolution... plain and simple. subaru has taken 5 years to catch up to the EVO, and even still falls behind. mitsu charges a premium for the performance; Subaru doesn't for mediocracy

I believe your argument in the last thread was that the WRX directly competes with the Evo, which IF that was your argument, you were wrong. The STi has always been the Evo's competitor, always.
You tried to justify your argument by saying "Well what did Mitsubishi have that competed with the WRX then?!?" and the answer is nothing. Overseas they had the Lancer GSR's which sported 1.8l 4G93 turbo motors (which were a bit underpowered but I guess would be the closest thing to a WRX competitor) and were AWD, but over here mitsu did not have anything to fight the WRX. Once they saw the popularity of the WRX they brought the Evo over (albeit before Subaru brought their STi) and for a short while Subaru was left in the dust with their (then) lightweight, the WRX. So since Mitsu brought the Evo, Subaru then decided to bring over their direct competitor the STi. Mitsubishi still (in this US market) had nothing really to fill the void between their anemic lancer and the Evo, so the WRX had no competition until just now when the Ralliart Lancer will debut.
That is what everyone is getting at, do you agree with the above portion? The Evo was NEVER made to be a WRX competitor. The STi is the Evo competitor because the price is/was similar to that of an equally equipped Evo, the performance is similar, and they have been rivals for years.

Where do I start?
Since I don't have my own island yet, I do consider price when purchasing my performance cars. $7k is a pretty big difference to me (and most people, I would wager), which is one of the reasons I bought my (brand new) RX-8 for $25k instead of a considerably more expensive STi or Evo. Although, even if Subaru or Mitsubishi were discounting their cars more I would have been reluctant to pick them over the RX-8.
Are you comparing the RX-8 to the S2000? Do you think I did when I bought mine? I would argue that the RX-8 and S2000 share the same spirit, but one is a practical 4 seater and the other is a purpose-built roadster. I would also argue that the Evo has a similar, if not higher, rate of blown engines than the RX-8. It's pretty obvious that you didn't research that point before you posted.
To reiterate (trying to reply to your post from the top down), the last new car I bought was this RX-8 in July 2007. I am certain that Mitsubishi and Subaru would have liked my business, but I bought the car that I liked the best.
Just because the Evo is faster at a certain track doesn't mean it's the better car. That's a ridiculous reason for most people to buy a car.

That pretty much sums it up, and I agree with most of it. However, I would argue that pretty much no rotary is as reliable a motor as a 4G63. Of course this sounds pretty biased (check sig lol) but honestly the 4G powered evo's are pretty much bullet proof. If they do explode it's usually a direct result of severe owner douchery.

My main point was that the base EVO and Sti shouldn't have been pitted against each other in that test. Ummmm, why not? They are DIRECT competitors in the marketplace, which would make them perfect competitors for a magazine test. If you're thinking the Evo MR is the direct competitor to the STi, you're basically retarded... the STi Spec C would be the Evo MR's natural competitor. Pretty basic stuff, here.
