I've heard it slows down your metabolism & effects your moods (giving you mood swings)

It tastes like chemicals to me. That's enough for me not to drink it.

NO it is not that bad for you, in order for aspartame to be deadly, you need to consume at least 100 diet cokes.
That being said, drinking a 1-5 cokes daily does not really do much to you. Although, your body will be in much better condition if you did not consume soda at all.
(you body can handle Soda, its the teeth that cant, inless you raise your mouth with water after)

A lot of the health 'danger' is hype, but at the same time, we're starting to find out that it's harder to fool mother nature than we thought:

I used to be a soda guy but I cut that out about 2 months ago. I wouldn't drink it that often, but I'd always go non-diet since it tasted nasty to me. Drink of choice was ginger ale.
Since I started to eat a little better and try to get into the fitness thing I cut soda out and now when I have a craving for something fizzy I drink a pomegranate seltzer water from Polar (might be a regional beverage, I'm in the northeast).

nothing artificial, and pretty much zeros across the board (sugar/carb/etc.).
much better than soda, but still provides that fizzy kick.
