...I still have a huge grin from driving my C5. It has been doing daily driver duties since I picked it up from Jon. It was supposed to be my weekend car but with my original daily in for upgrades and taking longer than expected the WhiteTrash has been doing that duty.

Pros:
Light weight compared to Caddie
No Telepathic handling
Just under 30 mpg hwy if I didn't stomp on it
Phantom Black dirt on the back end shows it is a DD

Cons:
Phantom black dirt since I haven't washed it for 2 years
Squeaks and rattles but to be fair I over torqued the sway bar and I need to grease the sway bar bushings
Nitto Drag tires like to loose grip at 90mph when boost reaches 12psi
This car has to be on more dangerous than I care to think about.

Overall it has been a great experience so far lol copy cat

Lane er... I mean Will

I heard Jon had to turn down the boost cause it was too much for you to handle... ;\)

It definitely was turned down!!! lol small balls
The boost controller is set for Wang(12psi) and Jon (19+psi). Me no touch 19+ psi, it's already spinning tires at 90... I will slooooooowly work my way to that high boost but I just don't see the need of spinning tires endlessly on a daily driver.

Does the pipe on the left simply just "T" into that pipe that swings from the right?

Yes, and before you say how shitty it is just remember boost overcomes everything.

I wasn't going to "say how shitty it was", I'm just surprised that there wasn't an ATTEMPT to make it more efficient. I realize that running positive pressure through that will really overcome any difficult passages... but certainly doing something smoother than a T would benefit you.

has the car been tuned? Numbers?

Damn, sure wish my C5 had lived long enough to attempt somehting like this. You sir have inspired me!

Dumb question though, I take it you cant ever go out in rain with a set up like that or do you have some sort of shielding for the air filters that you didnt post up?

We talked about blending the two pipes making it better, then we realized that it may not have mattered. So we figure that if the system sucked, we will fix that, and it was just T'ed.. So far, the car is making boost in every gear and we love the power delivery. At this point, we really don't think it is worth the time and effort, it is already too fast for DD in low boost.

We had the same plan for the turbo as well: use the stock GM Buick turbos as proof of concept and swap them out for something better later down the road. But the stock Buick Turbos are working soooooooo well that I don't think I want to spend the money. Besides it would really piss off the Corvetteforum guys when I say: "Yeah, my turbos cost me $150 and they make as much power as your $1500 ball bearing, double coated, bloomington gold turbos. lol sig"

But if you guys see two used TA-49 or TE-14 for sale cheap let me know lol contradiction.

Danny when you saw the car at the track it was untuned, and bogging due to 7:1 to 9:1 a/f. Jon & I finally had the time to tune the VE table and got it working pretty good now. I can see 10 lbs in 1st gear now and before it wasn't making boost. Also 3rd gear power kicks in at 3k rpm and climbs in a more linear fashion than the untuned no power than power at 5k lol supra

Jon built some shields to protect the filters from tire rubber but we don't worry about rain. It just doesn't rain enough to have me worried lol 1 inch per year average. Unless I am driving through a river, the filter can't suck up the water from the wet road.

Im compensating for you.

Will, if you load it up in 4th at 40mph, when do you start seeing positive pressure? And what are the low boost numbers? I know its a bitch to get anything to hook out in the desert.

I'll be out at spring mountain before the end of the year, we should take down a blackjack table somewhere.

If you come to vegas and dont go punch duder in his clit the trip will be fail.

I think you 2 might actually get along in the RL. But then your rivalry would be over and this forum would have lost a great part.

p.s Let's all get together for a track day then. I am sure Kam would be down as well.

Keep in mind that I have a 3:15 automatic rear on my 6-speed car, so it won't accelerate like the stock 3.43 rears. I did that so I can cross the 1/4 in 3rd around 120 instead of 4th, but it looks like I may have to hit 4th for a sec anyways.

With that in mind, on 4th at 40mph I am lugging at 1700 rpm or so, when I floor it, I see positive boost by 2200 but the car is by no means accelerating fast. The gearing is not suited for that.

But in 3rd, I just logged a 71mph to 121mph run in 5.5 seconds starting from 3214rpm with 0.7psi to 6471rpm with 10.1psi. A/F is 91oct safe at 10.7-10.05 and timing is 18. Still room to grow but this is fine for 110 degree summers here.

Maybe after a few months, I will have the balls to switch to high boost setting and see what it can do...

BTw dudes, I don't do turns, heck I don't even do drags most of the time. Also, I don't gamble but I don't mind go out for cheap drinks.

Listen you damn Azn. Your Mcguyver friend Jon just said that your turdmobile put up a fucking 5.4 second 60-130 number. Your car is going to run away from my car like I run away from a stock C5

But he cheats by shifting lol old SVA memories.

Here is my real write up I posted in the LVCFO forum:
Now that I've been daily driving the Vette... I can say OMG is it fun! It’s no longer mad power sliding sideways Heads/cam/nitrous fun, but more of a holy crap I am at 100mph and still spinning my Drag Radials fun. The Magical Whiteman - Jon and I built it together in his garage. He was the designer/ engineer and I was the manual labor/shop clown. We built the engine, tranny, and the twin turbo kit in his garage last year and it was an amazing experience for me. Here are my driving observations:

-- I love BOOST!

-- I love to take my car out to lunch, and enjoy the car with one of my co-workers. I can tighten their bunghole on demand with my right foot lol.

-- 2-Bar SD tune is very drivable, I get stuck on traffic, have to drive up to 6th floor in the parking garage, and there are no issues. I would love to get 3-Bar set up but the 98 PCM prevents that. So I still have to guestimate with my high boost setting.

-- AEM Boost Controller/Gauge is totally cool, so easy to use.

-- LPE Launch Control/Anti Lag is totally bad arse. The car makes 5 lbs of boost just sitting in neutral revving.

-- On my low boost street setting, the boost creeps into 12-13lbs and drops to 10 at high rpm, it is perfect for me at this point. I am not sure if I will ever try to run my high boost setting on the streets. A few times with Jon driving, we ran the high boost setting around 17-19psi, that was really really really scary….my balls shrunk to raisins.

-- I can average 24 mpg driving to work in light highway traffic or 20 in rush hour traffic. But if I do any WOT runs I bring it right back down to mid tens. City driving is also mid tens.

-- Did I mention I love boost?

-- Jon built me a forged 346 that is just amazing! It is so much smoother than any LS1/LS6 I’ve ever owned, including stock engines! Sometimes I just rev the engine just to feel the silky engine.

-- Swapping the 3.15 rear end into my car was a smart decision; it allows me to run 0-60 in 1st gear and row through the quarter in 3rd at 125mph in low boost setting. I think the car will need 4th gear in high boost settings. But since I have two MN6 and MN12 trannies. I may just swap the MN12 5th & 6th gears into the MN6 to get a little better oomph out of 5th and 6th….

-- We installed the intercooler behind the bumper cover and that was a wise choice. Even with 110 degree Las Vegas heat in rush hour traffic, my car won’t over heat. Intake Air Temp can get up to 125 after 3 or 4 highway runs, but that was just testing the limits of the car. I always run the Alky kit and it keeps the air down to 76 degree.

-- I am at 18 degrees of timing without knock, even when I do a WOT run in the Vega heat. 8.5:1 compressions really helps and I may keep on bumping it up to see what happens. I’ve used all kinds of 91 oct and the car takes it all without knock.

-- I was worried about lag with the rear mount system but with Jon’s careful engineering, wrapping and ceramic coating of exhaust, a good tune, we created a car with quite linear power delivery. It has usable power in every gear in all rpm range. It will only get better as we tune it some more, and coat the turbo housings.

-- The turbos are a pair of 20 years old, OEM, used Buick Turbos. They were supposed to be there as proof of concept and I was going to replace them with something a little more efficient after everything is sorted out. But since it works so well, I think we are will just rebuilt them to new spec, port the housings, coat them, and call it done.

So if you are unsure if you want to jump into FI world, do it and daily drive it! It’s just too much fun to let it sit in the garage.
