............and stopped by Norwalk Raceway Park on Sunday for the DSM shootout. I loaded up the tools/tires/gas and made the 280 mile hike out on 9 gallons of gas. I chose to run a non-DOT tire so I could not compete in DSM Eliminator, a heads up class. Instead I entered the bracket 1 class. First pass was 11.9 at 126. Not bad, I was happy considering I had to go back to stock cams due to some valvetrain damage I found a few days before. The next pass I missed third gear. Third pass I blew an IC pipe. Fourth pass 11.8. Fifth pass 11.7 at 129 after bumping the timing 2 degrees. Still no knock so I bumped the timing two more degrees. In the burnout box a fuel pump power wire came loose and I had to push it off the track. Lots of people came by thinking it was drivetrain damage but it was a fairly simple fix. Good thing too because I had to drive it back home. I called it quits after making five passes and being so far from home.

Congrats, man. I wish I could have made it.
although there wasn't much of a new england DSm showing, I heard it was a blast.
were you there to see the accident?
it sounds like it was pretty bad, and the fucking idiots that made comment on the news site seem like complete assholes.

I'm getting the motor, FMIC, and cams this weekend!!!
This motor keeps draining shiny oil, and reading knock all over.
120MPH, here I come!!!!

Damn right he knows, he and his sissy jap crap have nightmares about the day they get crushed stoplight-to-stoplight by that 305.

Seriously though, I wish I could've made it. I don't have time for jack shit lately.

Craig, from what I understand the accident actually wasn't speed related. In past years people would goof around, but the police presence this year was insane. I stayed at the BW and nothing happened, absolute nothing.

Mike, I'm sure Kurt will get to race me in "race trim" some day so we will see what the real deal is. As of right now I still out MPH him and ET him at the track ;\)

I will not race a 305, especially one in a truck with a stump pulling cam. No wayz a FWD can hangz with dat.

I had some friends that saw the accident. According to them the guy was being a jackass, spun out, over corrected, and then kissed a 4-Runner whilst killing his passenger in the rear of the vehicle \:\(

If you find the link, there's a witness-account of what happened.

from what *I* remember, someone stopped short, and he almost rear-ended them.
he swerved into the breakdown lane, and quickly found out why everyone was stopped...EVO stopped in the breakdown lane.
he jerked the wheel further, into the grass, and then shot across the 4+ lane road, and was T-boned.

I would believe this, actually.
the road has a lowered shoulder, and sliding onto it at-speed would pretty much have the same result no matter WHO was driving.

Unless I'm mistaken (and I very well could be) if you're close enough to rear end the person in front of you then you're wrong. No? Also that doesn't look to be an interstate or highway, I'd guess that they would have to be going pretty fast to achieve those results.

EDIT>>> here's the news blurb on it.

I've been down that road. It's rt 250
it's 2x2 with a turning lane. The ditches, as you can see, are about a 4-5' drop.
The road is long, flat, and fast. I think the speed-limit is 50? it gets to 45 in some spots, maybe even 35.... it's been a year since i've been there.

There is a story running around of ME running the Galant to the upper-end of 5th gear on it. we're talking 2-3 miles of straight + corn.

IMO 60+ mph is too much for that road.

I know the story. Actually one of my buddies who made the trip out to the shootout with me knew the driver who got into the accident.

Today my friend received a phone call from the Talon driver and he explained what had happened.

In a nutshell a car up ahead stopped short, David (the driver of the black Talon) had to swerve into the breakdown lane but there was an Evo sitting in the breakdown lane up ahead. To avoid hitting the Evo he had to swerve into the grass and then lost control of the car and spun into the oncoming lane where the talon was T-boned by an SUV. Unfortunately the news reporters are blowing it out of proportion because he was driving a sports car.
