lol I hit up Taco Bell too... except I had 2 hard tacos and that 99 cent burrito. mmmmm

i was skimming through the Taco Bell nutrition table and decided to stick with the original hard tacos. The rest of the menu looked like heart attack waiting for you.

Is it better to buy egg whites or just buy regular eggs and separate them myself?

Is one considerably cheaper than the other?

Sometimes I buy pre-cooked hard-boiled (or hard-cooked, whatever you want to call them) eggs from Jewel. They sell them in a bag of 10 eggs for like $4. I can buy a dozen eggs for $2 and change, but am too lazy at times to hard-boil my own. Lol.

Here is a question for you.

I'm currently deployed on a Marine base in Japan.

For the next 3 months I have no access to a stove or microwave and there is limited items at the nearby store (like what your average mini-mart sells).

I can eat at the chow hall which has a salad bar but pretty much everything is fried. Like tonight the menu consisted of a piece of fatty roast beef, BBQ ribs, various types of potatoes, and vegetables. I ended up eating a salad a protein shake.

I've been told we're served the same food as prisoners.

After a few months I will be going on ship for another 3 months where I will have access to a microwave but no grocery store...I basically have to eat what the ship provides me (usually garbage crap).

Am I fucked? Or are there a lot of non-perishable healthy foods that don't need to be prepared?

ugh, that sounds horrible. And I'm guessing that all of that food is loaded with sodium to preserve it. Do not want!

Egg Beaters are real good, but price would become an issue, I think, if you were to eat them every morning.

I buy the store brand(Krogers brand @ Fry's) and they are $3.99 for 16 servings I think that is actually cheaper then real grade A Large eggs..

Oh damn, 16 servings? I have only seen the smaller ones then. Well hell, if it's cheaper or even the same price as regular eggs, the convenience alone would make it worth it.

I just went out and ought some of the krogers stuff today.

Are there any tuna eaters out there? I'm gonna start adding canned tuna to my diet but I went to the store and there's like a million different kinds. I bought all bumblebee stuff: Chunky white albacore in water, solid white albacore in water, prime filet solid white albacore in water, chunk light tuna in oil, and chunk light tuna in water. Which is the one that goes on sandwiches? And what is the difference as far as health benefits go from choosing light tuna or white albacore?

Gonna see what I like the best out of those. Anybody have any preferences?

I always buy chunk light in water. Great stuff. Only down-side is that apparently there is a lot of mercury in canned tuna, lol. I was eating it every day for weeks, but stopped for a while just for the sake of it. I'm going to incorporate it maybe twice a week or so now.

A good recipe (that I use) is 1 6oz can, 1 tablespoon light mayo (or fat free), 1 tablespoon honey mustard, 1 tablespoon sweet relish. Mix everything up, refrigerate for a bit, and eat on whole grain bread or use some Kashi crackers to scoop.

Oh yeah, if you have a Sam's Club, Costco, whatever, buy your tuna there. Much cheaper if you do it that way.

What ever canned tuna you buy get "Solid" not chunk, and get it packed in water not oil.... If you make tuna salad out of it, sub Mustard instead of Mayo & then season it with pepper & or garlic this will save you tons of fat & calories, if you're going to put it on bread try to find bread without "Sugar" or "High Frutose Corn Syrup" in the ingrediants...

I understand getting water instead of oil, but why the solid instead of chunk?

Solid is one solid chunk of tuna, where as chunk is a bunch of chunks of tuna, you just get more in the same sized can with solid then you do with chunk...

In the past 3 weeks I've done a total 180 degrees with my diet and damn, I have a lot of respect for people that have been doing this for years. My breakfast is usually hard boiled eggs, fruit, and a whey protein shake (I usually do 30-45 minutes of cardio every morning before this). Then for lunch I'll have a salad (minimal Italian dressing), lean chicken, raw vegetables, and then an hour later have another shake. Then I might have an afternoon snack of tuna (sometimes sardines) or peanut butter sandwich on wheat bread. Then dinner I'll eat chicken/white fish and more salad/vegatables...then I do my hour to 1.5 hour of weightlifting, get back and drink a protein shake then go to bed a few hours later.

I've stopped drinking all sodas, sweets, etc..

This is just tough as hell, especially yesterday when I went to the movies and forced myself not to eat any popcorn. \:\(

Right now I'm 150lbs 11% bodyfat and just want to get to 160-165 but a little less bodyfat. I want to stay lean though because I have to do a lot of running in the Marines.

The biggest issue I have is that I'm deployed in Japan and we don't have any way to cook or even microwave...and the chow hall food is horrible quality (all fried garbage food). I would eat more brown rice but I have no way to prepare it...so I'm just trying my best to work with what I can (I have a fridge and a small convenience store to buy stuff from).

i am getting sick of the canned chunk tuna in water. It tastes so dry afterward, my breath smells like cat foods. I guess i will switch to solid tuna in water (if i can find it in store).

I bought 6 packs of pre-cooked chicken breast in a can from Costco. Tastes 100 times better than tuna,i drained all the water and grease out before eating it.

What other meat in a can i should consider?

What does it mean to be on a 'cut' diet?

And here's a disgusting sounding meal that I am quite fond of:

1 can of tuna (in water, the kind from Costco)
1/3 cup of red kidney beans
about 1 tablespoon each of deli mustard (brown, spicy) and horseradish

mix it all together. eat out of a bowl. delicious.

but, does a cut diet mean a lower ratio of fat and carbs to protein? I guess I'm just not sure what a typical meal would be if you were 'cutting'...

I guess I'm not too far off the mark then. My typical day consists of:

Breakfast - ON whey powder in 8oz fat free milk, 1.5 cups of cereal (barbara's shreaded oats), 20oz water, cup of coffee

Snack - if I am hungry I'll have one, and it's usually fruit

Lunch - either a salad with hummus & chicken, or yesterday it was 3 slices of turkey breast with green beans and corn, more water

Snack - again, if I am hungry I'll have one, typically almonds

Dinner - last night it was steak on brown rice, usually have steamed veggies plus a multi-v and fish oil capsule and a few glasses of water

After my workout (usually at night) it's sometimes a cup of cereal and small glass of skim milk, then a few glasses of water

I started keeping track of what I've been eating since I started exercising. Most of the time I am really good about staying on the plan, but of course I have a day or so every few weeks where I indulge (labor day was one such day). I drink water more often that is listed in the log though... I only write it out when I have glasses with a meal or snack.

Here's a link to the diet log I've been keeping: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pzg0HlLCuhicZDUA_m8nfcg

I started this kick about 10 weeks ago with the goal of losing 40lbs (a bit arbitrary, but at my heaviest I was 240, so hitting 200 sounded like a great goal). When I did my initial weigh-in I was at 235 and change, so I'd like to still drop the 40lbs and get under 200. If I do it'll be the lightest I've been since high school.

for the most part my routine is run 3-4 days a week for 3 miles or 30 minutes (been working up to that, and will ultimately increase to a max of 6 miles per run). I sprinkle in strength training from a routine that I got from a friend who is soon to take the test to become a personal trainer. Right now it consists of:

Regular Sit ups -- 4 sets at 15 reps, resting 30 Seconds
Regular Push ups - 4 sets at 15 reps, resting 30 Seconds
Tricep Dips ------ 4 sets at 10 reps, resting 40 Seconds
Bicycle Sit ups -- 4 sets at 15 reps, resting 30 Seconds
Plank -- 3 sets holding for 25 seconds, resting 30 seconds

it increases in intensity each week and the exercises vary. I'm also shovelgloving during the week - 14 minutes of random moves with a 10lb sledge, sort of like a poor man's kettle bell routine.

So far I've lost ~18lbs and 3" off my waist, and I'm down from a tight size 38 pant size to a comfortable size 36 pant.

I'm still a lard ass, but I am definitely seeing progress. I keep a blog to track my progress - http://drop40.blogspot.com - but it's mostly for me, not really out there for the public. I use it to store weekly measurements and mainly just track how things are going. I've been taking weekly pictures too, and this past week did a little animated gif between my first pic and the pic at 10 weeks. That was a great motivator (it's up on that site above).

I'm going to go check out your pics - how long have you been doing this and what are you at now size wise and routine wise?

quaker oat are rolled oat, meaning the oats are rolled under a big ass rolling pin to flatten them, steel cut oats are just oats that have been cut in half or 3rds.. They take slightly longer to digest so you don't get hungry as soon after eating them..
